I think they need to stop making their main focus how to discourage resales and work on just making a good product and sell it for what it’s actually worth. There are perks to direct & they can add more to entice buyers but the obsession with harming an entire loyal customer base to drive direct sales is just psychotic corporate greed.

I agree I think the fact that we're blocked out of future resorts is enough. Its enough to get me to buy direct.

If they want to block the discount fine too, but imo only I think all members should be treated as such and invited to events, character greetings and little treats.

We spend thousands too and want to feel part of the Club. I know some disagree and thats fine, but when I become direct I will still feel this way.

As I posted earlier in this board, I believe this is truly about allowing non-declared rooms at new resorts to be swapped for your points plus some amount of cash. Your points are not technically being used at 12 months to book a DVC room but instead you are trading your points to DVC for some cash value to book a non-declared room. Those non-declared rooms are already available for cash reservations and do not impact inventory of rooms that are declared already for DVC bookings

The survey says select resorts. It says nothing about DVC resorts. This could just be the Disney Collection

Sc law requires disney to own 4% of hhi points. Disney owned about 55k points at hhi according to the 2024 paperwork plus 12k they can sell.

Still here. I provided a screenshot of part of the survey as well as the email received.
I posted as I was concerned with the proposed changes and wondered if anyone else had received the email. Not baiting anyone.

I don't expect you to divulge anything you don't want to, but do you happen to have a ton of direct points? I'm just wondering if this survey was targeted, or just totally randomly distributed.

When a club member goes to reserve with points, that member can actually be assigned either a dedicated room or undedicated room. However, the number of total rooms reserved for any given day can never be more than the total of already dedicated rooms in the resort. Thus, if DVC were to create a rule that members, for an additional fee, could reserve undedicated rooms using points at 12-months out, such reservations would necessarily decrease the number of rooms any other member can get for the same days starting at 11-months out. In other words, for that extra fee, enough members could make reservations at 12-months for 50% of the total rooms in the resort and all other members would be able to get nothing at 11-months out. The current rules prohibit that.

I went back to the original screenshot and it only talks about discounts on last minute Points bookings— for all we know that could be using points to book hotel rooms, cruises, etc.

That seems to suggest an exercise in semantics. The existing rule provides that if a club member makes a reservation for a room using points and is assigned an undeclared room, that reservation counts toward the total reservations allowed for declared rooms. So all DVD and the member have to do to get around that rule is to just have the member transfer points to DVD, with the promise that DVD will then make a reservation equalling what the member could get for the points, and then call the reservation a rental for cash (in what dollar amount one can only speculate; and how much would be the required state and local sales taxes that DVD would need to pay?).

DVD can use the Disney Central Reservation system for its hotels to rent undeclared DVC rooms for cash and those do not count toward the allowed percentage of DVC reservations, but that system cannot be used to make point reservations. The existing rule is designed to allow both dedicated and undedicated rooms to be reserved via the use of points but limits the total number of reservations that can possibly be made using that method. The creation of a transfer/call-it-cash rule would just be creating a rule designed simply to circumvent the existing rule, which I doubt can be done.

So, basically just expanding what rooms are already available vis the Disney collection

Right now, it’s non DVC resorts, but adding rooms that exist at DVC villas.

I can definitely see them doing something g down the line to allow owners with restricted points to access DVDs own points or undeclared inventory via a trade and fee.

The document with the restriction rules say that could happen.

The only thing they can’t do is use any declared inventory unless they reserve it with their own points.

And, they have to follow the same home resort rules as the rest of us.

But, outside of that, and with the trust, they certainly can create a tiered system moving forward for new resorts.
