DVC Suggestion: Free APs!

So here's my quick suggestion for DVC. Include 2 free AP's for the length of the contract. Sure this will cut out some of their profits, but I mean really, what's the point of having DVC if you don't also have admission to the parks. I know it's nice to not go to the parks sometimes, but there's just so much to see/eat, etc. in the parks besides the rides that I'm sure I'll always want to visit them at least once per trip. Just seems like Disney could throw in a couple of AP's when you buy in at DVC.

Thoughts?

They used to have them but then it cut into their yearly bonuses so alas...no more!

The OP is talking about free APs for the length of the contract...there has never been that type of sales promotion. We early buyers got free park admission for 1/2 the occupancy limit of the villas, basically Length of Stay passes. They were only good while staying on points at OKW. And the program was always set to end January 1, 2000.

While it was certainly a wonderful promotion, remember that we early buyers also had to put a lot of trust in DVC. It was new territory for Disney. There were no guarantees that OKW would even be completely built out, let alone any additional resorts. Timeshares in Florida had a "fly by night" reputation to deal with. Disney had no way of knowing if DVC would grow into the entity it is today.

You could buy a 25-pt resale contract for under $3000 with annual dues of about $100. If DVC ownership automatically netted an owner two APs for life, who WOULDN'T figure out a way to buy? :lmao:

DVC is selling just fine without giving away hundreds of dollars worth of park passes each year. With over 100,000 DVC contracts in the system, you're asking Disney to forego as much as $70 million in ticket revenue annually. It would be great, but it's not gonna happen.

Sorry to be so tongue in cheek. The ivory tower is well compensated. That is all I was referring to. Sorry if you were offended.:goodvibes

Hey I would take a 1/2 price AP as a DVC member. Give us a better break on the AP's. ............:thumbsup2

I would not get the same use out of annual passes.

were I get two trips out of this lol.

Hell even throw in free dinning plans for 2.

I'm against anything likely to increase park crowds...

I have to agree with this!
It seems like anytime/anywhere is packed now..too many people discovering or rediscovering Disney I guess....

For the length of the contract...uh, that would be worth approximately $25,000? More than most people's initial DVC investment. So the short answer is no, this will never happen.

I was not offended, I was clarifying the promotion for people who were not familiar with it. I was simply responding to your statement that
They used to have them...

I know this is tongue in cheek, free APs for DVC owners, but if you ask me (which I know nobody did ;) ) if they gave us a better discount (which don't get me wrong, I appreciate what they do give us), there would not be threads like the current one about which is better, 10 day non-exp or APs?

I think DVD should offer automatic AP renewals for DVC owners and have the pass added to the annual dues. At a better discount than they currently offer. This would keep many more people in their parks EVERY DAY, instead of 2 or 3 out of 7 like we do. We would spend more money on meals for sure!

How about a discount (any discount) on MYW tickets, that is something I could use. I just won't get there enough in one year for an AP.

This was my comment exactly. While sure, who wouldn't want lifetime passes???, it simply is not cost-efficient or even necessary as an incentive. DVC is selling like mad with very few incentives as it is. No need to add something so attractive. (Again, don't get me wrong...if they were to do this, I would be the first one doing cartwheels!)

But I think one thing they really COULD do is some sort of discount on the MYW passes in addition to annual passes. Not all DVCers use/want/need APs.

But I think the reason that they only do the AP discount is to get you into the parks every day and coming back for vacations often. But I would also appreciate some sort of MYW pass discount.

I would like free Annual passes, free dining, free wine and beer, and a $100-per-day merchandise credit for any on-property retail stores. :)

Seriously, Disney is a business, and WDW consists of various business entities that each need to cover expenses and make a profit. The only way to fund free admission tickets of any kind is for Disney Vacation Development (DVD) to pay the Disney parks for them as a marketing expense (as was the case in DVC's early years) or for DVC resort annual budgets (our annual dues) to pay for them. Neither is going to happen.

The AP discount works without funding from DVD marketing or DVC dues because it's ultimately in the Disney Company's best interest to have as many DVC members as possible buying annual passes rather than conventional multi-day tickets. It's a discount that encourages the purchase of annual passes ($$$), encourages DVC members to spend money on-site ($$$) instead of wandering to other Orlando attractions and restaurants, and encourages the purchase DVC memberships and and-ons ($$$).

My $.02 - I would suggest:

1 free AP per 250 points owned (AP valid through contract life) per year with a maximum of 4 AP's per household.

or

1 Free 5 day park pass per 250 points owned per year (valid through contract life) with a maximum of 4 passes per household per year

---------------------

Another nice incentive would be to offer fastpasses for DVC owners. Maybe something similar to the "other resort/park" offers; anyone staying with a DVC notation on their room key can use fastpass line at will. That would be nice, very nice !!!

I can only dream...
