If you're booking directly with Disney, the only benefit a studio would have over a regular hotel room is the kitchenette. And not everyone needs that. If you're renting points, the added benefit then is that you'd be staying at a deluxe resort at a good discount that's likely on par with the cost of a room at a moderate resort.

There can be additional benefits depending on the resort, but again not everyone may care about them.
For example, at WL when comparing WL hotel rooms with CCV studios:
- the CCV studios don't have wall to wall carpet, they have laminate floors, which can be a significant benefit to those with allergies;
- the CCV studios with walk-in shower (not sure if the tub room are the same, but they may well be) have hand-held showerheads instead of fixed showerheads
For us, these two features alone tip in favour of booking CCV studios with walk-in showers versus WL hotel rooms, at least until WL hotel-side gets it refurb.
At AKL, whose hotel side is currently undergoing refurb, the reburbed hotel rooms have both laminate floors and handheld showerheads so that benefit is now on the hotel side at that resort, at least as regards the refurb rooms.
Yeah my biggest hangup is the foldout bed issue. I asked the kids if they would rather stay at a nicer hotel but sleep on a pull out or have an actual bed. They both said a bed. And Im not overly fond of the idea of folding up their bed and re-arranging the room every day for a week.
In fairness though I didnt tell the kids the difference b/w the “nicer” hotel vs a regular one.
Small caveat is studios can be A LOT cheaper than rack rate Deluxe rooms, and sometimes even cheaper than Deluxe rooms with discounts. Also free parking at the resort!
What are these deluxe room discounts you speak of? I swear, the DVC rental is almost half the price of the rack rates and I haven't seen any discounts at all. I'd love some recommendations on when/where to find them. If I don't, and we can't get the DVC studio, then we're likely doing swan/dolphin or a value resort.
For a daily fee..i think it is 15.00 you can get towel and trash service. We love SSR and DD doesn't mind the sofa bed. However two kids sharing a sofa bed might be a different story.
