DVC Studio or Regular Room?

Hi,

For those hotels that have both DVC and regular accomodation options, which would you choose if you were renting from Disney and *not* using points: a DVC studio or a regular room? And if your answer depends on which resort, pllease put the resort name, too.

DVC studios have a queen bed and a pull out double sofa (except OKW and those have two beds) vs. a hotel room which will give you two queen beds.

I think it all depends on how important the mini kitchenette that the studios has to you or if you are just two people and would like to have a sofa to sit on when not sleeping.

In terms of size, I think they are somewhat comparable, but can say that the BLT studios are much smaller than the rooms at the CR. Plus, many of the hotel rooms at the deluxe resorts sleep 5 where the studios sleep only 4.

It depends on how many people you have. OKW is the only studio with 2 queen beds, the others are 1 queen /1 double sofabed.

It would depend on # of adults and # children. In a DVC resort, you can have 4 adults stay in a room.

It depends. Someone has already given the example of the BLT studios being significantly smaller than the CR rooms, which can be a factor. Another one that comes to mind is BCV/BC. Some of the BC rooms have the one person standing balconies and some have full balconies. All of the BCV rooms have full balconies (in fact, I've had some of my largest studio balconies at BCV, depending on the location). But at some resorts, for example, VWL vs. WL, there aren't as many structural differences other than the sofa bed vs. second regular bed and kitchenette vs. small fridge.

I typically recommend a studio over a regular room if there are two adults who plan to share the bed, or one/two adults for the bed and one/two small children who would share the sofabed. If the children are older, or if you have adults who don't plan to share, then having the second regular bed may be the issue that decides where to book. As a person who travels solo, and loves the microwave and larger fridge of the kitchenette, I tend to book a studio - especially if it's running around the same price as the standard room in the attached resort.

I have been in POR with 4 adults and SSR with 3 adults and I was by far more comfortable in POR.

The studios have too much wasted space, between the entrance and having to find a place for the cocktail table/pillows every night to open up the sofa bed.

It is also only comfortable with one person (I was that one person and it was pretty uncomfortable after the 3rd night).

There was only one sink in the studio; two sinks at POR.

The only plus side at the studio was the kitchenette.

We frequently stay at WL, regular room north wing.....alot but one trip were offered a studio in WLV thru Disney....we decided to try it.....we were first impressed with going to the villa section and the actual room but after awhile, just the one queen bed and the sofa sleeper just seemed not to our liking....hard to explain but at times the sofa as a sofa was pleasant but pulling it out and folding it up, just an unwanted pain.....when it's left out, not alot of room in the studio....as for the kitchenette.....microwave and such hardly used, extra sink and utensils Eh....small TV in cupboard.....not like the regular rooms in the Lodge with flatscreens.....

We found we missed the antics of the main pool (though just around the corner to the main pool) just a pain to take our stuff too, Roaring Fork for mug refills good poke away, we were closer to the bus stop than the boat launch which made using the buses more.....just logisitcs weren't the same....we went back to the regular rooms with the 2 queen beds (and it's just the wife and I) but we can each spread out on our own bed....don't miss the kitchenette and prefer the north wing being closer to the QS, boat launch and hop skip and jump to the main pool......never tried anyother villas studio and probbly won't since they are mostly set up the same...saw no advantages in the studio and it cost alittle more than a standard room....
