For our upcoming AKL kidani/ VWL stay over Thanksgiving, Disney has in its' wisdom sent us two sets of magic bands. Both are same colors, same names. The system prompted me to create two sets of bands, apparently because of the split stay. I assumed that Disney would recognize this and "link" the stays and send one set.

Well, they didn't. I got two identical sets today.

So, are both magic band sets linked to my full MDE profile and usable interchangeably, or do I somehow need to figure out which set is for which part of the stays? Am I going to have to have the family carry both sets in case some ride or room doesn't recognize one band versus the other? Sooooo confusing. Thanks for your replies, MB experienced DVC'ers!

From the MagicBand & Cards FAQ:
Q. I have multiple MagicBands or cards. How do I manage them?
A. You manage your MagicBands or cards in the MagicBand section of My Profile. For example, you are able to:
  • Activate or deactivate MagicBands or cards
  • Report a MagicBand or card as lost
  • Customize MagicBands before they are shipped
Multiple MagicBands or cards can be assigned to a single person, so activating a new MagicBand or card does not mean that you must deactivate an existing MagicBand or card. All active MagicBands or cards assigned to a person have access to the benefits and entitlements for that person. Adding a new MagicBand or card does not add new entitlements, such as additional theme park admissions.

If you require additional assistance managing your MagicBands or cards, please contact us or visit any Guest Relations location at Walt Disney World Resort.

Hi Michael, so it's safe to say that what this is saying is not to worry that each res for a split stay has magic bands available? Just pick one res and get the band(s) for the first res and it'll be "all good" for the second res, right? :)

We're doing a split stay in December, just finalized our dates and flights, so I'm just now getting started with the magic band and fastpass thing.

I hope I can add a few fastpass reservations even though my AP is not "activated" yet. Also keeping my fingers crossed that things go well when I activate my DVC AP as I've seen that others had had some issues.

But - the CM's are probably going to be super experienced with these special DVC AP's in December, there will probably be a "ton" of us activating these things in December!
thanks

I'd still customize both sets. If you don't customize one set, they will either send grey ones or they will have grey ones waiting at the resort for you.

This is a way to get multiple colors.

I had this same issue on my recent Kidani/BCV stay. And at BCV I was in 2 separate rooms (1 BR, then studio) so I actually had 3 bands. I called Disney, but they said that during the test period, they wanted guests to have a separate band for each reservation. But here's what happened-when I transferred from Kidani to BCV, my "BCV" bands were packed somewhere in my suitcase. So the front desk CM took my "Kidani" MB, did some stuff too turn the Mickey Head green ("activate it", I think she said), and I was good to go. Never did pull either of the other two MBs out of my suitcase. ALL MY FP+s, etc., worked off one band all trip. I now have two unused Magic Bands.

They are going to send you sets for each reservation so you might as well pick out the colors you want otherwise one will be gray. I'm going to have a collection of all the colors soon since my last minute visit in Oct had some changes along the way with waitlists. December also has 2 resorts so I'll have 2 more.

Starting to understand all of this now, thanks everyone (sorry OP, kind of feel like I hijacked your thread). very grateful to all of you

Not hijacked at all, Mary. That's why I started the thread, to get some input from the experienced folks. It's one of the most useful aspects of DIS in my opinion. Thanks to everyone for their help.

We already have two sets of Magic Bands since we had a split stay last week. One set is gray and the other has been customized with colors. Both sets worked identically.

My understanding is that the band is linked to your MDE profile, so whatever is on there is what will happen.

We had 2 reservations back to back, so we got two sets of bands... I did different colors for my wardrobe and used both on both reservations and they worked fine... I linked both to my annual pass on MDE before leaving home (this was last week that we used them)
