Anyone else get a mailer from the DVC Shop requesting that you rent your points through them for $12 a point. I've never even heard of this company. Anyone use them or know anything about them? I did not like that their mailer tried to appear as though it was from DVC with wording on the front that said "your membership bonus inside!" In Disney font.

Although I think this is free enterprise at work, the brokers have gotten bolder and more aggressive in the past few years.

I wonder if Disney will ever do anything about these companies or if they even care.

I personally think they offer a good service to members that would normally let their points go to waste as they do not know how to rent the points themselves.

Yes, I got one. I've never heard of them.

I don't think Disney would take kindly to their use of Tink's image in their logo.

I feel left out as I did not get one.

I wonder how he got his mailing list

Yes, if tinkerbell is on the ad, that is probably a trademark violation.

I dug around on google and I found it.

Hmmm....looks like a Disney figure to me.

What do others think

Mods: I am posting this as public info for DIS members as I have no idea who this person is and if this is not allowed, then please edit this post.

I just found out who owns the site (created only a few months ago):

Sounds like a major trademark issue to me. Anybody remember the story of the daycare center that had a mural with Disney characters that Disney smacked down? In the 80s I think? Unless he has some kind of licensing agreement he's taking a big risk. In addition to Tink, I believe "DVC" is also a registered trademark.

Given that Tom Fontaine put his name on the mailer, he's not trying to hide anything. His background would indicate that he knows something about business, so maybe he has done the due diligence and it is all above board and legit.

Not sure how he got his mailing list, but as we all know, companies sell their client lists all the time.

It is highly doubtful that DVC sold this person a list of owners, and no doubt the cost of that list, if they would agree to sell it, would not be cost effective for a small business. Our deeds are public record, and that is likely the source of his info. There seem to be companies that gather and compile the info from the country records, and then generate a potential sales list.

Okay, and that seems a reasonable way to get to a targeted audience. It is a matter of public record.
