DVC rooms compared to hotel rooms

IMO, studios are comparable to most Deluxe class Disney resorts, except they have kitchenettes with a microwave, fridge, coffee maker, toaster, etc. Studios are generally larger than deluxe rooms, and the resorts with queen bed/pull out sofa studios "feel" even larger when the sofa sleeper is folded away. OKW has two real queen beds in all studios, but OKW also has the largest studios in the DVC system.

One bedroom and larger accomodations are much more spacious than regular deluxe rooms and have washer/dryer, full kitchen and whirlpool tubs.

Chuck is right, but I think the REAL DVC can only be experienced by staying in a 1,2, or 3 bedroom villa. I don't stay in studios. By doing that, you get a full kitchen and laundry room plus a jacuzzi, so your vacation is complete!

While it's true that DVC studios and the standard rooms at the delux resorts are about the same size in my view the delux resort rooms don't compare for the following reasons
...they have kitchenettes with a microwave, fridge, coffee maker, toaster, etc.

Yes. The studios are closer to a Deluxe room maybe, but they're only a part of DVC. And there's just no comparison between a Deluxe resort room and the 1, 2 or 3 bedroom DVC villas.

I don't find the DVC rooms comparable to deluxe resorts. They usually seem more worn to me, more well used than the Deluxe rooms I've been in. Daily housekeeping isn't provided (which makes a difference in both how the rooms wear and how you feel staying there). Maybe I've been lucky in staying in recently refurbished Deluxe rooms and unlucky in staying in DVC rooms that could use a new coat of paint.

I do find them OK, and I think the way they are maintained is appropriate considering they are spending my dues maintaining them.

Before we purchased DVC we rented points for a 1 br and OKW --and we haven't sayed in a studio yet! It's a 1br or we don't go - so IMO they are much better that the deluxe accomodations on property. :teeth:

Most of our trips to WDW were in deluxe hotels prior to joining DVC. I must admit that I was a bit surprised by the condition of the 2br we stayed in at BCV during our first trip as DVC members. As crisi said, they are a bit more worn than your deluxe rooms at the other hotels. The carpets and furniture had stains and obvious signs of wear in the cushions. The walls were pretty banged up.

HOWEVER, THAT BEING SAID, I would have a VERY difficult time going back to staying in a regular deluxe hotel room at WDW. Although some of the DVC rooms show more wear, they are MUCH roomier and come with kitchens and washer/dryers and in general are just larger accomodations. I'm spoiled now. I can't justify staying in a smaller room that doesn't even have a toaster or microwave when my DVC will. As far as mousekeeping goes, I'm one of those folks that PREFERS not to have to mess with them coming into the room and worrying with it. They interupted my kids' naps on trash and towel day b/c I forgot about them coming and didn't put the sign out. But their abscence is probably part of the reason for the wear on the rooms.

So for me, the amenities and size of the DVC rooms far outweighs that of any deluxe hotel room.

LOL! That's what happens when you start a reply, but your dryer buzzes and the phone rings before you hit the Submit botton.

We are renting points for a studio for the frist time in April. We really wanted to get a feel for DVC but now I'm thinking we should have requested a one bedroom. Oh well.

Do they not refurbish the DVC units as often as the WDW hotels? It seems like guests mentioned "wron" units and halls quite a bit.

Depends on what you mean by "nicer."

Space is nice--the 1BR and up offer more space.

Kitchens, jacuzzis, Washers and dryers are nice.

Still I would agree that the Deluxe rooms are not just in better shape but are also more elaborately appointed than DVC rooms....more decorative touches...DVC rooms are not spartan--they are decorated....just not as much IMO as the Deluxe rooms.

here is a link to lots of photos of some of the really fancy suites on property--

One thing is the same for the DVC rooms and Disney Deluxe hotels - uncomfortable beds, and no fitted sheets. My only complaint with DVC and Disney hotels. But, I am a bed snob. :goodvibes

:confused3 Link didn't work. I don't want to stay in a deluxe, I just wanted to see all the fancy dancy rooms ;)

put in in your browser with www. in front and no space between the words. That site is blocked from here. Warning, you might suddently think $2000 a night for a hotel room sounds reasonable!

I just had my first experience with DVC at OKW in a studio. The room was wonderful and although the beds were firmer than mine at home, I had no problems sleeping. As far as the size goes, I've stayed at nearly all the resorts on property and the OKW rooms are larger and just have a great "feel" to them. I'm moving up to a one bedroom at OKW later this year but since I spend little time in the room between DTD, golf and the parks, it's really not that big a deal for me. I just want to experience the larger accomodations and who knows..I may be sharing the resort with a friend!

One of the reasons we finally decided to buy DVC was the rooms at SSR. They are much more nicely appointed that the other DVC's (IMHO). We have stayed at OKW, & while the space is nice - I did feel I was staying at an economy condo. The only deluxes that I have stayed at are Poly, CR & WL. If WL is truly a deluxe - DVC is nicer. (Nothing wrong with WL - the lobby is breathtaking, but we were very disappointed in the size & condition of our room (conceirge).

I agree with what everyone has posted here. Particilarly about 1 bedrooms and up being extra special.

They do refurbish DVC rooms as often, or more often, as other WDW resort rooms. The difference is, that with full kitchens in the room, you will get food stains on carpet and furniture from people eating meals in the room. Also DVC members who go to WDW often, are likely to spend more time in their room than regular WDW guests, causing more wear and tear. (I hope we DVC members are not just messy :teeth: )
