At what point in the process can you make your room request for a DVC stay? For example, we are going to stay at BLT and want a high floor and a room ending in specific numbers (because they offer the best straight on view of the castle). I know nothing is guaranteed, but when do I make this request and do room assignments take booking date into account when granting priority?

I've made room requests at the time I've made the booking. Standard reply is they will make a note of the request, but nothing is guarenteed. I have no idea how or when the actual room assignments are made.

It sounds to me like the best bet to get the room you want is to check in early in the day, reconfirm your request then and say you're happy to wait till the room you want becomes available.
 
I've always made my requests when I book the reservation......you could call back now and add those requests to yours if it's booked already. I don't think they take the date your reservation was made into consideration when making room assignments......I really think its luck.....if no one is checking out of a room ending in the numbers you requested on a high floor they have to place you in a different room......we've stayed at BLT twice requesting north tower even number room ....once we were assigned a room that met our request....either way it's a beautiful resort and we had a wonderful stay each time
 
You are always best off making that request at the time you make the reservation.
 

When I bought in 1999, the official line was requests were granted by date of reservation. That ended around 2003 when they started a "room ready" system where rooms were assigned when checking in at the front desk, you got whatever was ready. Since then, they have gone to a combination of assigning at the front desk and pre-assigning.

I talked to a cm at AKV once and he said it can be a puzzle. They not only have to look at what rooms are open on the day you arrive but also when you are leaving and the next person coming because of the lockoffs. For example, if you have a studio or 1 bedroom that are part of a lockoff and next week someone needs a 2 bedroom lockoff, they have to make sure both parts will be open on their check-in day.

Yes, and all those issues are why I don't make many requests or ever expect to get them. I almost never get my requests at OKW, but I also don't usually have any issues with any of the locations at OKW. I have had a 50% record of getting my requests at AKV.
