DVC "Rookie" has dumb questions...

Our UY is Dec. We just banked our full allotment of 210 points, which I believe means we won't be able to book using those points until Dec. 1.

Here's the challenge: We would like to book in our "home" resort AKV in early Aug. 2010 (for a 1-week stay in 1BR). But instead of being able to book in Sept., we'll have to wait until December--which means more competition for rooms, of course. We were particularly interested in booking AKV Concierge but I am disturbed to read that those rooms are extremely difficult to book ANY TIME of year.

Without the 11-month out "home resort advantage," do we have any prayer of getting AKV Concierge? I believe we would need 313 points to make this happen. Is there any other way to slice this orange? Please advise as to our chances and other possible strategies to employ.

Thanks for helping out a rookie who still has a steep learning curve on how to effectively use our points.

You're misunderstanding. You can BOOK that trip anytime. You don't have to wait until December 1.

You're planning a trip during your 2009 use year (runs Dec 09 - Nov 10) using points that are IN your 2009 use year right now (because you've banked them there you said, and some would already be in that use year).

When you book has nothing to do with your use year. Your use year is related to what points you're using WHEN your trip is.

So call and use that home resort advantage right at your 11 month window in September! Good luck!

So...are you saying I would have 420 points available to schedule for anytime after Dec. 1 and before Nov. 30?

Also...any thoughts on how tough it will be to get AKV Concierge if I call right at the 11 month window? And a technicality...is it 11 months out from your vacation END date or START date?

Actually you would have 630 available. You could use banked 2008, current 2009, borrowed 2010 for stays between 12/1/09 to 11/30/10.

It's 11 months from your check-in date.

The points have to be in your account at the time of the vacation, not at the time of booking. Since you've already banked them, your account will show that you have 420 available for a vacation between Dec. 2009 and Nov. 2010.

We too have a Dec. UY and it works great! Call at your 11 month mark first thing in the morning.

The points are actually in your account already. I have an April use year and if I look online it shows 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. For a December use year, it should currently show 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011. So there's never any waiting for points to deposit. Any you could possibly need are already there.
