So now that GF villas have been announced, how long before they could start on River Country? Have they ever built 2 onsite villas at the same time? Has anyone seen any construction going on in that area or are those plans put on hold? Anyone heard anything credible? With all the wedding pavilion controversy, wouldn't it had made more sense to do river country first and not booked weddings during the GFV construction? Just a thought.

I think that was 2009 where DVC opened sales to Kidani, BLT and THV.(And I think GCV, too).. So all of those were under construction at the same time.

I'm sure GFV was all about the $
(I suppose you could argue that if Disney waited any longer on GFV, they would loose more guests to the 4 Seasons now under construction.)

Whether River Country is ever developed for DVC is probably still up in the air. At some point, Disney may decide that the market is saturated for DVC on-site at WDW and their projections might not warrant the development.

GFV makes all the sense in the world since it can command a premium price per point and nightly point structure. Not sure a FWV would be able to do the same.

I would definitely be more interested in purchasing at River Country than GF! Not that I wouldn't mind staying at GF at some point. I like the more relaxed feel of SSR and OKW so thinking if they ever went though with building at the old River Country it would be more in line with my taste:cutie:

I doubt you will see villas at the Fort Wilderness/River Country area being started before AKV gets a lot closer to selling out, if started at all. GFV was a no brainer over FW. It is at a premier resort, it will sell well and it will sell for a high price; put one up at FW and you just have another resort that will take 6 years or more to sell out and they don't want another one of those before AKV is much closer to selling out. Sure, there are a lot of DVC members and others that would consider FW ideal but Disney is guessing correctly that the number of potential buyers who would consider FW to be the ideal place is a small fraction of the number of potential buyers who will think the same of GFV.

:thumbsup2 And I'm an Irish Mom who used to live in Massachusetts too.

They will need to start it before the end of 2013 to avoid having a "point shortage"

I think that's what they'll need in order to sell out AKV. Again, it also depends on whether sales demand continues to be strong. At some point, they will see a diminishing return on new construction.

With BLT almost gone they will put a pretty good dent in AKV before VGF sales start.

I just don't see a River Country DVC being a priority for Disney. River Country itself is in shambles, and must be completely rebuilt from the grounds, including a full and separate water filtration/treatment system. Basically the full expense of building a whole new water park, as they can not use water from Bay Lake for activities.

On top of that, while there is certainly nothing wrong with camping, you really don't see "deluxe" hotels being built as an addition of a camping complex and sharing services. Ft. Wilderness would need to have its services upgraded to accommodate the addition of 1000 or so DVCers if they want to share existing dining and shopping venues.

And River Country would not be anything exclusive to DVC or the Campgrounds, but would have to be a ticketed water park to recoup the rebuilding costs. Does WDW really need another Water Park gate?

The fact that the old water park is a wreck and a liability so leveling it (on DVC's Dollar) is one of the reasons that a new DVC there might have more priority.

The site drawing look really cool with portions of the buidings over the water.

It is also by its design a "cheap" type of buildings to build so more gross margin.

Also the last 2 resort have been "Glitsie" (sp) resorts, (not counting THV) so a more rustic setting would appeal to those who do nto like the "luxury" look.

Also there is a lot more space than at BLT or VGF so they can be more creative with the grounds, pools and other areas

Yes, but I think a lot of people are thinking that this new DVC, if built, would be attached to some sort of major water play area that is exclusive to DVC or DVC/Ft. Wilderness...similar to the way BCV and Y&B share their Stormalong Bay. It is very doubtful anything like that would happen in the River Country location. IF there is any sort of nice water park at all, it would almost certainly have to be a ticketed gate.

I agree, and I really think they will develop DVC entities to the other major resorts before they develop another completely new one. Yes, I think we'll see DVC/Poly yet this decade too. It's really the only major one left to develop into DVC. I don't really see DVC ever developing at the values or moderates.

I do think if they decided to go ahead with this project, it would be of more interest to me than either BLT or GFV. I don't ever see myself staying at either of those unless I can't find anything anywhere else.

Actually Kidani sales are part of the AKV sells--same resort. They started in 2007. It's not like the DVC ran of Jambo House points and then later opened Kidani sells separately, it was a continuous selling. In fact the DVC is still selling Jambo House units. (Thanks to wdrl for confirming that last bit of information.) And BLT was definitely selling in 2008 and it did not open until August 2009. I don't know about THV/SSR or GCV.

You are correct, Kidani points were being sold earlier. Kidani/Jambo no longer matters to owners, its all AKV. But from my recollection, they were sold as different than Jambo. In late 2008 if you bought Kidani points, you could not use them on a DVC stay until June 2009 (you could book a June 09 trip in Sep 08, but could not book a Feb09 trip..), when Kidani opened. I think DVD included some SSR use-only Developer points so buyers could use something right away, but they could not use Kidani points until it was scheduled to open.

Since the question was more on multiple resorts under construction at the same time, I threw out a more simplistic answer because there was much overlapping construction.

Add me to the camp of adding on at this type of a resort rather than GF. This is appealing to me.

Jim

The drawings showed the new DVC buildings right on top of the old RC site so no chance of any reuse.

i LOVE Ft Wilderness (i've stayed in the cabins a few times) so I'd definately be interested in owning/staying there! And i went to River Country a few times before they closed it! LOVED it!:lovestruc
