I dont know how many of you are runners or walkers (I guess we are all walkers to a certain extent, considering how much walking we do at WDW). Anyway, I just wondered how many other people enjoy those early morning jogs or walks around their resort.

I am usually up by 6:00-6:30 (habit), and often while on vacation take a jog around the resort. This is one of my favorite times while at WDW. I love the parks, and the fun we have as a family, but this is just a beautiful time of day. I have run through the OKW, SSR & Boardwalk/Beach Club areas while on vacation and it is just fantastic. Quiet, cool, relaxing, and you really get to take in all the beautiful landscaping and surroundings that you are in.

We are off to AKV in October, and just wondering with Kidani now open if there are some nice areas to run, walk?

Thanks,
Eric

I am a walker and DH is a runner and we plan to take advantage of the beautiful huge treeline pathways at the THV next October. :cloud9:

I love the early mornings at WDW. I enjoy sipping my coffee in the cool of the morning. Last trip we stayed OKW/AKV and watching the AK animals from the deck in the quiet was heaven. :lovestruc

SSR and OKW are the best for early morning walks. My husband is a runner and he'll be up when it is still dark out so we can get to the park when it opens.

Alas, Kidani and Jambo have no good areas for running. All you really have is the parking lots and the path from Jambo to Kidani. You can't leave the resort area without getting onto high traffic roadways.

Has he ever felt it was unsafe to run in the dark? I was walking once through the POR (beautiful grounds) and it was eerie to me. I know he's a guy so it might be different.

He didn't have any problems and he was wearing his Road ID.

I don't do it for exercise, but I'm always up and out very early, going to Roaring Fork to get breakfast and bring it back to the room. I do enjoy those early morning walks, before things get busy at WL & VWL.

walked in the early morning myself at OKW and it was fine. Had the security guards ask me if I need a lift - but other than them - it is so quiet and peacefully - loved watching the sun rise.

also walked at SSR, BWV, VWL - but OKW is probably my favorite of early mornng.

with AKV had to do something that I hate - this is a big hotel - so you can manage to walk/jog thru the halls. Really hate it - but you do what you have to do.

the rooms are quieter than most - so don't think I woke up anyone - no one complainted - there are workers out - so you are not alone (think that is what I missed)

The first time I ever saw an armadillo was at the CBR while out on a run at
6am. Steam coming off the pools looks really cool in the morning.

We are a family of walkers and runners, which is why SSR is good for us. My DH got up early and walked around BWV and to DHS along the canals this trip. Earlier this summer I tried walking at AKV. There are only sidewalks, no walkways. I think I found a workable solution although not a lengthy distance. Starting from Jambo, walk along the sidewalk to Kidani, walk up the driveway and back down to the pool, around the pool area. Then walk to the tennis courts/grilling area then back to Kidani and on to Jambo. You need to watch the cars/trucks, but it is possible in the early morning. I asked my oldest DD who runs when we visited AKV this trip. She said that she might attempt running on the road looping from Jambo to Kidani early in the morning.

I love the early mornings. BWV is particular beautiful when you have a Boardwalk view and are up before sunrise. And then it's great to go down for lattes at the bakery, so peaceful as people are all just waking up after a late night on the Boardwalk. :)

Good to know you felt safe. I am a total morning person and when I don't walk for exercise for more than even 2 days, I get cagey. :hyper:

VWL is really nice as well, since the path to Ft. Wilderness and all the Ft. Wilderness loops are at your disposal as a runner.

BW and BC aren't bad - the lake is a nice walk - I'd imagine its a sort of repetitive run if you are planning on running a few miles.

BW/BC can add the path to DHS in addition to the loop around the lake. :thumbsup2

Exactly!

Me too. I'm an early riser and I like to stroll around BW before most have risen.

Its still pretty repetitive if you are going to do a few miles - although I suspect most Disney resort loops are pretty repetitive if you are going to do a few miles.

I am a runner, and to make this more enjoyable, I actually run down the walkway of the canal to Hollywood Studios and back. So the loop around the lake, and then go out to HS and back is a nice morning run/route.

BC and BW area for us. It is very nice before right before 7:00am. We recently stayed at AKV and could not find a an enjoyable walk. We walked from Jambo to Kidani but it was all parking lot.

I am not an early riser or a jogger... However, since I am going to really, really try to lose weight for our Jan trip, I will be in the exercise mode by than. I am thinking a nice morning walk around the lake will be a great way to start off my day. It will also be a peaceful start while the DH and kids are asleep.
