I wanted to see if anyone ever requested late checkout of a DVC resort before and if it was granted and how much extra time you were granted. Im sure if might depend on how booked the resort is but I didnt know if Disney is extremely strict or if they give you a break if they can.

No late check outs but you can book a room for 1 day extra.

No late check-out as mentioned, but you do get full use of the property for the remainder of your check-out day. You can use the pool, community hall, etc. and they'll store your bags and bell services.

So, while you can't have the room and just have a "sleep in" day - they do allow you all other privledges.

extremely strict.

DVC villas tend to take more time to clean than hotel rooms and the DVC system is designed to operate at close to 100% occupancy so you would virtually always make things more frustrating for the next guest by delaying their check-in.

as stated, it's not an option.

We have stayed twice where check out day we had late flights home. It is a way to extend our vacation. Upon checkout in the morning (in the past we have had a stroller or rented a stroller for the kids and we just pay for an extra day of the stroller) we keep a small carry on bag with us for anything needed during the day. We check our bags into Bell Services, enjoy the park/resort and just pick up our bags prior to getting on the ME bus.

In the future without the stroller, we will just leave everything at Bell services. Our first trip, our flight was in the morning and you have to be ready for ME 3 hours before your flight. I figured at that time, I'd always rather fly at night and get home really late, than get up really early to come home. Plus the added benefit of not paying (or using points) for an extra night when it's not needed. It's one of the nice things of DVC having the laundry all clean when you get home so you can pack right from the suitcase back into the dresser.

If you use the check in service at the resort, they take your bags when they print your boarding pass in the morning. No reason to leave the majority of your stuff with bell services.

There are also showers and changing areas you can use at each DVC resort if you'll be using the pool or getting all sweaty and nasty in a park. No need to be uncomfortable when you head to the airport.

DH got it once for us, but that was in a situation where they put us in an inappropriate room (and from the line DH encountered at the front desk and the chatting they all had a chance to do, they had put MANY people into inappropriate rooms that day) and didn't have anything for us until the next day. Since they didn't have any open rooms, they had to wait for someone to vacate a room and have it cleaned. It was our first trip (though by then in the trip it was our 3rd, I believe, DVC resort) and we didn't realize how much we would HATE being "stuck" in our room just waiting for them to deliver our keys. If we had it to do over again we would have gotten everything ready to go early that morning, left them with BS, and gone to have some fun. Nevertheless, it was given to us. That one time.

Last trip when we had to switch rooms due to a heinous mildew/mold situation, they did not offer it (nor did we ask for it) and in fact were knocking on our door for an hour or two BEFORE checkout time. They continued to knock even once we had told them repeatedly that we actually needed the room keys to the next room before we left. This was a situation where they had rooms the night before, but my thinking skills were blunted by my extreme reaction to mildew/mold and my sick self preferred to stay in a room where I was terribly ill instead of moving to a clean room. :headache::rolleyes1 So in that case they HAD a clean room for us to move into, and we just needed them to do as they said they would do, and bring us the keys. Once they brought the keys we were out of there after the housekeeping manager came up to see what was wrong with the room!

Man oh man do I hope we never have a negative room situation again, as it's getting old to have these experiences....

To add, they actually instituted a policy fairly early on for no late checkouts. While I'm aware of a couple of exceptions, most people are told no categorically. If they allowed late checkouts they'd likely have to move the check out time to 10 AM which is what most timeshares are. However, it never hurts to ask, just record the name of who told you if you get an OK.

Thanks everyone i figured it was strict but I didnt know if its lax if its ever time when its not super busy.
