DVC reservation question

I am new to the board, so forgive me if this has been answered.

I am considering buying DVC, and I am trying to decide between going with resale vs. directly from Disney. I understand that there is a good deal with Disney until Feb 1, so I would like some feedback soon.

My particular situation is this: My vacation time for the entire year is determined for me about one month prior to the beginning of the calendar year (i.e., Nov-Dec). My preference for vacation in Disney is spring (Feb-May), so when I know my vacation period, I have only a few months to plan.

Is it a better deal to get the place I want to stay at via resale, or should I go with SSR via Disney? If I get a resale, for example, at WLV, and want to ensure I can use it in spring, I would have to book 11 months before. I could try to request my time off for the trip, but it's no guarantee. If I then have to cancel, then the use year would be critical in whether I have time to make alternate vacation plans later in the year. Am I correct?

If I were to buy at SSR and want to stay at WLV in the spring, what are my chances of getting it booked less than 7 months before?

I sure hope I am making sense...
