Has anyone done business with Reid Resort Realty? If so has it been good, bad, or an indifferent experience. How can I check to make sure this is a reputable place to do DVC purchases? And does DVC handle resales directly?

Thanks

We just closed on a Wilderness Lodge Villa resale thru Reid.
All went fine but there was little communication unless you asked a question. In fact, we haven't heard from him since we were asked for the initial deposit (the actual closing is handled by another company). The purchase proceeded in as timely a maner as others have reported with the other popular resale agents. From what we have heard there is more feedback from the other agents, but he had the property we wanted at the right price. One piece of advise is to check the status of any points yourself as some of his postings are confusing (ask the seller for a copy of their Disney statment).

Disney doesn't do resales, though if they exercise their right to buy a resale they then have the points to sell, but at current prices.

Good luck in your hunt.

I know what you mean about communication. So far it has been mainly email. He reported to me that he has laryngitis, hence could not communicate well over the phone.:bounce:

Well, I made an offer last week on one through this company. I have no clue what has happened here, but if when I get back in the office tomorrow there is still no communciation then I am withdrawing the offer. Communication does not appear to be the stong point here!!! The first communciation was that the listing was actually inaccurate!

I appreciate the input. I've not made an offer as of yet but am considering soon if the right property at the right price is available. Love the mouse.

IF your looking for a great communicator try Jaki with www.atimeshare.com She knows her stuff and loves to talk DVC!

I have not heard anything really bad about Reid... other than they are hands off.....

I too haven't heard anything particularly negative and thus far wouldn't have any problem using them if the need arise. If one needs hand holding and someone to look over their shoulder, they really should not be buying resale. If they were anyway, they might be more comfortable with Shontell, TSS or Jaki. To me, the best price was the most important issue.

I too have not heard much about this particular resale broker however there are two that are mentioned frequently on these boards. We used Jaki Apetz at A Timeshare Broker, 888-345-2622 and found her to be just first class. Good communication and professional.

Good luck with your decision.

I've not heard of them. We purchased all of our contracts through Shontell Crawford. She's very good to work with and will purchase through her again. Very knowledgeable, courteous and professional, a pleasure to deal with.

Her website is......

Good luck with your purchase.

I don't need handholding. What I did need was to know if my offer had been accepted.

Based on the fact that I never heard anything, I am assuming NOT! However, should I ever for some obsure reason decide to sell the Reid group won't even be on the short list. Based on the customer follow-up I have seen, the buyer has to hunt them down! Oh well.

I am on the waitlist with both Shontelle and the board sponsors! Hopefully I will find what I want.

I agree this is a negative issue. But sometimes things happen. It's a shame they lost a sale over something that should be done automatically. I'm sure something will come up.

Dean,
You know who I really feel sorry for is the seller. My offer was very reasonable since I find you have to pay a little more for small point resales (these seem to be a seller's market). The contract is still showing as for sale. I wonder if the seller was even notified.

I had made an offer on a property thru Reid and recieved a reply within 48 hours. My offer was declined but I did at least hear back from them.;)

I made an offer through Reid earlier this summer. Communication was fine. It did not work out, as I thought the seller wanted too much and would not really come down at all. It was not the fault of Reid.

I did find a nice one (and much better deal) with Jaki right after that and we should be closing next week. She is wonderful to work with.

I was working with Shontell, who didnt have what we were looking for but she contacted Jerry at TSS and he had exactly what we were looking for. I would go thru Shontell or Jerry again if we were looking for another dvc proerty. They are both great.

I have been actively researching dvc for the past month and my husband and I have finally decided we wanted to purchase a resale. I knew exactly what I wanted so I kept watching the inventory listing by reid, shontell, the timeshare store and a few others. I was ready to purchase a resale listed by reid and I was willing to pay the price listed, I just wanted to get a confirmation regarding the points that were available for the 2002 use year. When I call a business during business hours, I like to talk to a real person. For some reason, It's frustrating to leave messages and wait for 2 days before someone returns your call. I also sent an email that was never answered. Then, I gave up on that particular listing and saw one listed with Shontell, so I called her and she actually answered the phone herself. I made an offer, and she called me back in 30 minutes with a positive response. She faxed the paperwork to me the very next morning and has been readily available whenever I have needed to get in touch with her. It has been very refreshing to work with Shontell. We are still in the closing process, but I feel so much more relaxed about the whole process knowing that I can count on her to answer my calls and return my calls promptly. Best of luck!

I listed my DVC points with Reid and never heard anything from them. It did show up on their list of available points but that's it. Fortunately, they are not exclusive listings so I was able to post my points on the Free Timeshare listings sites and got 3 offers within 1 week. We are now waiting to close and I still have not heard anything from Reid, so I wonder if they present all the offers that they are given.

I have worked with TTS and Jaki, and found Jaki to be especially helpful. I did make an offer for one of Reid's listing and I finally withdrew the offer because I did not feel comfortable to be in the dark (I can only reach his voice mail or send him an e-mail) and he is not particularly responsive. At the end, I am still not sure what happened to my offer, if he ever reached the seller to present it.

I ended up making an offer on an OKW property listed by the Timeshare Store. It was smooth and Jerry Sydow called me every step of the way to let me know:

1. The offer was accepted
2. When the paperwork was forwarded to both parties
3. That they received the returned paperwork
4. That it was in the title company's hands
5. That is was recorded and final paperwork was on it's way.

THat is exactly what Jaki at atimeshare.com does.... It is nice to be kept imformed as the process is moving forward. Resales are much slower than buying thru Disney, and knowning I would get a call, every other week or so was reassuring.
