I promise these are my last set of questions - you guys are so helpful. I found a VWL resale online through Fidelity for a really good price. I am not concerned about the price, or money, etc - i have questions about how all of this really works. We have a trip (cruise / park) already scheduled and paid for June. if we did this resale, would everything be done before then and would we be able to use those points (we would have 400 points available) to apply towards our June trip (any portion). also, since the cruise is already paid in full, would we be allowed to convert payment to DVC points and get a refund?

i am not as concerned about the park portion since it is less expensive and paid for through my company (working ) but the cruise i would definitely want to take advantage of the points if i could. Also, i booked the cruise through a TA and they have been great - would converting to DVC points mess up their compensation in any way - i would not want that to happen.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, even if you made the offer today, it's likely to be 2 months before all is said and done. At that point you'd be so close to your June trip that I'd just go with what you have scheduled for now and plan to use the DVC ownership in the future.

how long does the whole resale process take? i plan on offering asking price, so i dont think that will be a problem - i know we have to do the FROR and that could be up to 30 days (though i have been hearing 2 weeks). when would i "officially" be a member and be able to start booking vacations on my points?

If you made an offer today, the points would probably be available for usage around mid-May, give or take a few days. You would not be able to use the points for the cruise at that point, my understanding is that cruises booked with points have a finite window, and need to be done months in advance. You might be able to find something to book with your points for the park portion of your stay, but if it is paid by your company you might want to use the points for a later trip. In all probability you would have a hard time finding something for june anywhere at 4 weeks out, especially VWL.

If you are content paying for the cruise, having work pay for the park stay, then don't let one trip affect your decision. I wrestled with this for awhile myself, and ultimately it's shortsighted. But, I do appreciate the thought process. Bottom line is, you can take those 400 points and use them for a really nice trip later in the year.

The only variable would be if the banked points are expiring before you can use them. If that's the case, you might find a similar contract with no banked points for a few bucks less? I think the contract you are looking at is a Feb UY, correct? For $68? There is another one with Feb UY with no banked points for $59. That would save you approx $2000....which might make sense if you do not need the extra points. Those Feb 2010 pts have to be used by 1/31/12. If you cannot go back between your cruise and next Jan, I'd consider buying the other contract, bank the 2011 points, and then 2/1/12 you would have 400 pts.

Not sure where you've been hearing two weeks. If you look under the "Operations" section, there is a thread about ROFR. It's almost always taking 30 days. Some have taken as few as 25, some 27....many are hearing back right at 30 days.

And even a full price offer could take a few days to get to ROFR. Both parties have to sign. We offered $4 over asking price on ours, and it took the sellers 2.5 days to agree and sign. Theoretically it could be done by tomorrow, but remember, these resellers are SUPER BUSY.
You'd have to assume 30 days. Then it takes another 10-14 for the contract to be finalized and mailed and closing to be set. Once you close, it will take another week to get into their system. I have been told repeatedly that if every variable goes perfectly, 45 days, but 75% of the time it's 55-60 days.

Regardless, you cannot make an offer today with any assumptions about using those points for a June trip. I would look at it as a nice backup option for the park part of the stay, but again, if your company is paying, I'd save the points for another trip. That's just me....

Our ROFR took 24 days. Don't know if that's a record or not! We are now SSR DVC members!

Your resale contract will have to be submitted for ROFR by 3/20 to have full trade-out benefits. After 3/20, you will not be able to use points for the cruise or disney collection, adventurer collection or concierge collection.
