Hey everyone, first time posting a question on the Boards!
We’ve been considering a resale contract for a while.
We go down to Disney World from Toronto every year. This past August we rented points for the first time, to essentially try before we buy.
I think my brain might explode though, with the amount of research of done. I’m not sure it’s computing anymore, so I thought I’d reach out for some help / knowledge / advice.
I think I’m getting stuck on what the best UY would be, and how the points work on a resale.

1) I think an April or June UY would work because we typically travel in late Summer, early Fall or December. Does this sound correct?

2) We are planning a trip for mid-August this year. If a resale contract has points coming up in April or June, does it seem reasonable that we could use them for August? (already assumed we would be left with SSR or OKW)
I’m just wondering about the turn around time for getting a contract finalized?
And what if I like a contact where the points aren’t available until after August? Is there a way to pull them forward?

If there is any good reading on this, please direct me!
Thanks so much!

Correct. Banking deadline for April is November 30, so you'd run into holding points cancelling past that anyway for December. Banking deadline for June is January 31.

I wouldn't plan on it, mostly because if you bid today, you're not likely to close before at least April 15, maybe longer. 60 days to close is lightning fast, and then 2-3 weeks for system setup. But 75-90 days is more common, then the same 2-3 weeks.

If it is an August UY contract you could potentially borrow them if the contract closed and there were availability.

Thank-you so much for the insight!

Keep in mind that if you buy direct the points are available right away. I own both, but you have to remember the wait on resale can be long and frustrating. Even after ROFR it takes 30 days or so to get your points posted and you often have to poke member services to get it to happen.

August is wide open right now. That could change in a few months, I guess, but you'll be able to get something for August. I did it in May-ish last year, and I was able to get August easily.

If your points are already banked or expiring or whatever, that's a different situation. Normal points would be able to be banked at that point in an April/Jun UY.

I just sent the "worse than Satan's armpit" quote to my daughter who travels to DW in August and is also a teacher.

We voluntarily went to Orlando in lane July one year. However, we never set foot in a theme park. Instead, we bought a Water Parks & More AP. This was back when DisneyQuest still existed. We were either in water, in the sweet sweet AC of DisneyQuest, or at a restaurant indoors eating.

That was tolerable. Barely.

Being So Cal natives, early July is still well in our comfort zone. It's August, when the humidity REALLY starts to ramp up that I find myself asking why I'm not sitting on my own beach at home in 80 degree weather and 20% humidity.

My guess is that you would be able to use the points in August if you are offering and get the contract sent to ROFR soon. Late August better than early August. Also some flexibility in travel dates always helps with "last minute" bookings.
