Hi folks,
We just rented points from a DVC member for our upcoming trip. We asked for the regular Disney Dining Plan. The member mentioned that the cost of the Dining Plan would be paid when we checked in.

So, here's my question......

Do I have to buy my park tickets from Disney to be able to have the Dining Plan? I was planning on buying them from Undercover T.

TIA

DVC points stays (your own points, rented ones, or even RCI exchanges) do not require a ticket purchase to get a dining plan (QSDP, DDP, or DxDP). In the case of point rentals, the actual owner has to call to arrange for the dining plan.

However, as of last fall, DVC dining plans do need to be paid for in advance, so I'm not sure why the person you're renting from is telling you that you can pay at check-in.

Thanks for the clarification!

The member mentioned that the DDP needed to be added by him and that it had to be added on at least 48 hours before arrival and that we pay for if when we check in.

I'll be sure to verify this with him more clearly when we receive confirmtion.

If the owner doesnt typically use the plan, they probably overlooked that change. I know many that aren't aware since they never get it.

Yes, I am a DVC owner and just booked a reservation for someone who is renting from me. I was told by member services that it does now need to be PAID FOR IN ADVANCE, at least 48 hours prior to check in. This was news to me also. I questioned them as to how the person renting is supposed to pay since they need to go through me. I was told that the person renting from me will have to give me their credit card info and I would have to call. This is a change from the previous policy where the person renting paid for their dining plan upon arrival at check-in. I see it as a negative for DVC owners who rent their points as some people may not be comfortable giving their credit card info to a stranger that they're renting from.

I just went through this as we rented point from a DVC owner. What we ended up doing is we paid the DVC member for the dining plan (via paypal) and she booked it on her credit card. That way we didn't have to give our credit card info to the owner. I hope this was ok???

I think that sounds like a good idea. I would wonder though, if the DVC owner will be charged a fee for this transaction by Paypal and therefore, lose a little money in the process?

We have rented DVC points for our vacation in March of 2012. We intend to add the dininig plan. It was suggested by the person we are renting from that we go to our local Disney store and get a gift card in the amount of the cost of the dining plan and then give them the gift card to pay for it.

First of all, unless the booking was made prior to October 14, 2010, the DVC member was mistaken about paying for the DDP at check-in. For all reservations booked on or after last October 14, you pay when you add it to the reservation. If the reservation was just booked, as soon as the OP's DVC member adds the plan to the reservation, he or she will be asked to pay for it, so it's best that you work out a method of payment before then.

You are also not required to purchase any tickets as part of a DVC room reservation, dining plan or no dining plan. It's not a package reservation.

Yes, you will pay a transaction fee if being paid through Paypal.

The idea of getting a Disney Gift card is genius. Has anyone actually done this and seen it work?

Can anyone think of a risk, or why you would not want to do this?

Thanks,

Addie

I think the gift card is a great idea! I am anxious to hear of anyone else who has done this!

Yes, you will pay a transaction fee if being paid through Paypal.

Actually, you do not get charged a transaction fee if you use the Personal tab on Paypal and "other" for "what the money is being sent as" radio button. I had my renters do this and there was no charge whatsoever.

I am a DVC member. When adding the dining plan for a person who is renting points I get the total amout due and then the renter sends me a check. I haven't had any problems.
