Is it worth it to rent DVC points from people? Sis and I were thinking of doing this for a quick trip in May as we think this will be the only way we would ever be able to stay at AKL.
Thanks

Hi our family did it in 2006 and loved it. We stayed at WLV but we also used it for a 2 bedroom with 2 preteens and 1 teen(all girls). It was amazing but a bit expensive but well worth it. We rented from a great guy and he was very helpful. We enjoyed having two rooms and having kitchen for cheap breakfasts and snacks at night.
:thumbsup2

I don't think you can use points on regular rooms. You'll have to stay at AKV in a studio or bigger so room will have a higher rack rate. That said, even at 10/pt, you could get a great deal on a few nights there. We just did beach club villas - a 2 bedroom and I paid 300/nt for it through a rental.

If it's only 2 adults in a studio and you are comfortable with paying a private person (remember, you may have no recourse if the renter doesn't come through) upfront then it should be much cheaper to rent DVC points than from WDW.

A couple of things to know about AKV DVC studios:
- no daily housekeeping, trash and towel service on day 4
- AKV studio is 1 Queen and 1 double sofa bed (AKL is 2 Queens)
- if you want ME or DDP, renter must arrange for you as you can't speak to DVC member services (because it is a private transaction)

Private rentals are generally available for $10/pt while the sponsor of the Rent/Trade Board charges $13/pt but you can pay by Visa to give yourself some security. Sign up for his last minute specials and you may get an email with a great deal (I think there is a decent chance of expiring June UY points becoming available for less than $10). We rented from him in the fall on a $9 special (and cancelled WDW POR with no penalty) to stay at AKV Kidani and saved about $600. Got an email last week for $6 but it was for stays ending 3/31 and SSR only.

Oh yes!:thumbsup2

And when you get home, and want to purchase points, head back over to the DVC board for lots of good reading!
Enjoy your trip!!!

:)

DVC is not very flexible to book last minute stays. Availability becomes an issue. If you do not have your heart set on a specific resort you are more likely to get a reservation. Most likely at SSR or OKW.

I wanted to thank you for all your assistance. I will surely be looking more into this. Thanks you for all the tips too...you guys are the best.:goodvibes

DVC accomodations are awesome!
