DVC Rentals at Aulani?

Has anyone ever done a DVC rental through David’s DVC Request at Aulani? We currently have a reservation for a standard view hotel room (2 queens) for my family of four the week after Easter, but I just learned about dvcrequest.com and looked into the price comparison. I found a DVC studio room, with an ocean view, for a $1000 cheaper. That seemed way too good to be true, so I was wondering if anyone else has done this and bad thoughts/opinions on doing this. The only differences I can find are that you have to pay the full amount for the DVC rental instead of just a deposit through Aulani, and there is no cancellation if I do the DVC rental. Also, it would be a studio (with the pullout sofa) instead of two queens in the standard view hotel room.

Thanks for your help with this.

My friends uses David's and have had great experience. Have you check the DVC rental board here? I think cost wise, it is less expensive to deal with an owner directly (with due diligence).

I have used David's a couple of times and they were amazing.
I had a difficult request the first time and they put me on a wait list, which at the time I didn't know I could do. They found me a unit within a couple of days.

Another perk of renting DVC points vs directly booking with Aulani is free parking for anyone staying on points, even if you are renting them

I tried to rent out some points last year through Dave’s, and did not feel good about my initial conversation so I went elsewhere. The one person they had answering the phone just didn’t seem overly knowledgeable about DVC. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d rather go with a Florida based company, which is closer to the action and knows what they’re doing. Not sure, but I believe this company is based in Canada.

My sister almost stayed at Aulani with a cash reservation last year because there were no DVC rooms available for her dates. She already had the plane tickets so thought she was locked into those specific dates, but after researching, she realized she would actually money by paying the fees to change her flight and book on points for a few weeks later. I think in the end she still saved close to $700. As someone who often rents out my points and has occasionally had to rent points, I can say it’s definitely cheaper to rent and stay DVC, whether through a service or directly through an owner.

I did (in March 2020, no less). The David's part of it all was great. I was a solo adult though - and that would've seemed small for four people (depending on the ages and travel style - and I should reiterate that when I went, I spent a lot of time in my room, lolsob). That said, I don't know that it would've felt altogether different than the hotel room would've. I hadn't rented points before that experience and everything went as smoothly as it could've. That said - concerns around travel insurance, cancellation, etc all make sense. I was traveling with a free plane ticket (having given up a first-class overnight seat on United a few months before) so I felt less concern about "getting my money's worth". If I had invested a lot (especially paying for a family), I would've wanted to protect myself more than I did.

We used David's DVC rental for our trip this past month. It was our first time renting points so it was kind of scary paying upfront with no cancellation (especially 10 months ahead and not knowing what will happen with covid), but the price difference is HUGE compared to booking directly through Disney. We bought travel insurance to ease the emergency cancellation fears, but luckily didn't need to use it. The process of booking through David's was very simple and it's easy to link your confirmation number to your MDE account so you can view all your trip details and check in online. I know renting from a DVC owner directly is typically even cheaper, but I liked having a third party execute a contract. Definitely recommend!

Two other differences are 1) free parking when you stay on points, but 2) no housekeeping.

Used Davids on our last 3 Aulani trips and am using them again this November. Given that we only stay 3 or 4 nights a year a DVC membership doesn't make financial sense for us.

The experience with Davids has been exceptional, and I will keep buying from them
