I was about to rent a one bedroom at vgf but as I was submitting payment it was booked and I lost it. I told my family we were getting it and now I'm screwed. If someone decides to cancel will a reservation open again? Davids rental said once its sold out then its sold out? I was planning on buying dvc so this would have been perfect to test dvc before I buy

You need to stay at several resorts before buying. We bought a couple resorts without staying there and they have turned out to be our least favorites. We really did our homework but found out after buying that we didn't know as much as we thought.

Sometimes lessons can be expensive.

Thanks but if I'm going to buy then in my mind I want to buy now so I can take advantage of pts and break even faster lol...I know wrong state of mind

Can you do a Cash reservation? That way you can try it first If you think you want to buy there. We stayed at BLT twice on cash before buying DVC. We loved it so when we bought DVC we bought there. I think you need to stay someplace once before buying - or at very least actually visit the property.

I think ideally you'd stay at many resorts to try them out, but I kind of agree/understand that you want to get started using a membership. We knew we were MK people and liked BLT and convenience of walking/monorail and have been happy (we've only owned a year, so yeah not a lot of history under our belts.) in that time we have stayed also at VWL and SSR which we both liked, but we still prefer BLT. A one off trip we'll stay elsewhere, but for our big trips we stay at BLT.

Disney loves your state of mind, all the way to the bank! :goodvibes

And remember if things don't work out you can always sell later and buy a different resort. That's what we did and it only cost us $10,000. :thumbsup2

Three things to consider:

1. Look for another broker (or owner). You might be able to find one who will waitlist for you. If there was just availability, chances are reasonably good it will become available. Know that most owners are not willing to waitlist for a renter, but you won't know until you ask. You might need to put down a deposit so the owner knows you are serious and won't back out later.

2. Keep an eye on the DIS Rent/Trade Board. You may find a confirmed reservation for rent that matches your dates. This won't happen until at least 30 days prior to arrival, so it's not a great option unless you have some type of back up that can easily be cancelled.

3. If you are truly serious about buying VGF, do it now and make it contingent on the Sales Guide getting you the reservation you need. They may very well be able to make it happen for you.

Good luck. Sorry you lost out this time - hope you have better luck next time.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm going to cross my fingers and wish upon a flying star. :)

I am new to DVC so excuse my ignorance. But can you explain what you mean when you said you bought a couple resorts? I understand you have your home resort but can't you rent at any available? Ours is VGF and already have resv at BWV,AKL and VGF

Buy purchasing contracts at several resorts, you gain the 11 month booking window for the points owned at that resort. Basically you have multiple home resorts.

For instance, say you have VGF as your main home resort, but also enjoy staying at BCV. You could also buy a 50 point contract at BCV...through banking and borrowing you'd have 150 BCV home resort points you could use at the 11 month mark every three years.

Here's an example: We usually travel during the week of Thanksgiving. We would LOVE to stay at VWL, but because we don't own there, we can't make a reservation at that resort until the 7 month mark. By the time the 7 month mark rolls around the rooms are already booked by people who own at that resort. We have waitlisted for that week, but in all these years have never had our waitlist come through. We currently own two contracts at our home resort but if I owned one at our home resort and one at VWL we could bank and borrow to switch off stays at the different resorts every other year. We love our home resort so it has not been a big deal for us, but that is just an example of why we might want to own at two or more resorts.

Thanks I know my only hope is a vgf owner and somebody needs to cancel their existing reservation before the 7 months so I prob missed my small window of opportunity.

That is why trying to find someone who will waitlist you is important. They will put you on the waitlist right away and when a VGF owner cancels you will already be in line for the reservation.

OK thanks... I posted in rental section but so far I have not found anyone.
