We have an October reservation we are cancelling and the rental store is offering $2400 cash back (thank God I opted for the PPP) or a $2900 credit to be used by 2022. What would you choose? I am nervous to have that much money tied up into a company that may bankrupt after this but we are planning on going May 2021 and would need to rent a 2BR at BLT - and dates already look slim on the availability calendar. So should I take the refund and book a 2BR through Disney for much more; or take the credit and book now (with the PP again, obviously) and hope they don't go under? What would you do?

Refund. Availability will probably be tight in the next couple of years, as many DVC members have postponed trips from this year, to instead take in 2021 or 2022. And, of course, you'll have total control of the money & not be at the rental store's mercy for your next vacation. And yes, they could always go bankrupt. I doubt that will happen, but you never know.

You mentioned that you cancelled. If the reason has anything to do with fear of Covid or concerns about restrictions at WDW in response to Covid, keep in mind there is no guarantee that Covid will be gone or that there will be a good vaccine by 2022. Another reason to take the refund.

I'd probably take the cash. If you want to book for 2021, then I'd book through Disney even if it ends up costing more. They may offer a discount but even if they don't, you can book the room/package you want now for only a deposit (which does not tie up all your money) and if something happens, you can easily cancel. Sometimes piece of mind is worth a little more in the pocketbook!

Agree with everyone above. Refund. None of us have any idea what will happen with the virus, parks or resorts in the future. Also, it's not a given that the DVC Rental store will still be in business when you want to make a reservation.

Also, the agencies have been trying to tighten up their contracts. The terms and conditions of those rental credits often have some real dingers in them.

Take the cash. Money in the hand is better than hopes and dreams for a villa in the future.
