I'm in the early stages of planning a trip for my daughter's graduation & my son's last year as a Disney "child". I'd like to do 2 weeks June 2016 using a split stay of 1 week at the "Swolphin" using star points & renting DVC points for hopefully a value studio at AKL. Which should I book first? We just got the first Starwood credit card, so starpoints will have to be earned & combined. I just want to ensure check in & check out dates match. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you want a value room at AKV, you need to find an owner to book for you at exactly 11 months out.

And even then, it might not work out. There are only 5 2-bedroom lock-off value units (1-bedroom + studio). They are extremely hard for even AKV owners to book right at 11 months.

No, that's not correct. Club level only has 5 two-bedroom lock-offs, but the Value category has 10 two-bedroom lock-offs plus 8 dedicated studios. At 11 months, it shouldn't be a problem to reserve, but you need to be exactly at 11 months.

I stand corrected.

But the value studios are still a very difficult reservation to make for an entire week. The OP will need to have their DVC member lined up closer to 12 months prior to their planned arrival.

one note on the starwood.... (it's great) check the website for what dates you are thinking about, and don't forget about the cash and points options too...it can be a great deal if available on your dates....don't forget it's stay 4,get 1 free, so if you book 5 nights on a res on points, one is free(the total points on the website will show that)
