Hey friends! I am planning a ten year anniversary trip to Disney in September. I keep going between wanting to rent a studio dvc room or just going through Disney and getting a regular room at the beach club. The price seems to amazing not to try and go with the dvc rental, but I’m worried if something happens to come up and we have to cancel we would be SOL. Anyone recently been in this predicament? What did you go decide to go with and why?

Given today’s environment, I think you have to be willing to write off the DVC rental as a loss if something happens.

Of course, you may be able to find an owner who has terms that allow you to adjust the trip, but points have dates they are valid for so not all are willing or can,

IMO, right now, its tough to recommend renting to anyone who is worried or wants a decent cancellation policy since it seems that even trip insurance hasnt been that successful as it does not cover pandemics.

I agree with Sandisw. If you are at all concerned about the need to cancel, renting DVC is not the way for you to go. The savings are so great because of the risk. I have seen some owners who rent privately offer a sort of "insurance" by charging an extra dollar or two for the privilege. Their terms vary with the owner.

The brokers will only offer a voucher for future use IF the resort is closed due to unforseen circumstances. Some brokers offer a "cancel for any reason" policy that prorates your refund based on when you cancel. They charge extra for that assurance and it is not refundable with your cancelation.

By the time that you pay for any kind of "insurance" the cost savings of renting will be greatly diminished. Aside from the 50th Anniversary celebration (Oct. 1 or thereabouts), Disney should be offering some great discounts to put heads in beds. You should be able to get a hotel room for a nice price in September.
