Is there any way to get insurance for DVC rental? In my research about being a careful renter, I’ve seen numerous suggestions to get trip insurance. But I can’t understand how this would be a possibility. Is this something one can get through a normal trip insurance, something they can work out with an owner? I’m wondering if any owners offer an “insurance plan”. Is there any way for owners to be able to move/cancel reservations? I am this guessing this depends on when points expire? Anything else I should consider Or is it usually just the risk of renting?

Different owners may offer options for moving the trip but must have a pretty rigid cancellation policy.

As you said, it depends on the points used and the terms of the owner.

Renting is a risk and one has to be comfortable with it. There are people who have gotten cancel for any reason insurance but from my understanding when you add that, it may make renting not as good a deal as without it.

I do know with the current pandemic, most do do cover cancels reared to that.

If you are the renter then just get a policy where you can truly cancel for any reason you want with no explanation and get your money back.

If you have a lot of concerns, just book directly through Disney instead of renting points.

I recently checked with one of the rental comparison sites for a renter. They did have policies available for vacation rentals.

I asked what was needed for a claim. The agent said that a copy of the rental agreement along with proof of payment would be needed for a claim.

The pricing didn’t seem excessive to me. I priced a basic insurance policy for a $2000 vacation for a couple in their 30’s. There were policies ranging from $84-$145.

Did this apply to cancel for any reason? Or are things excluded from policy like not want to go because if pandemic

This quote did not include “cancel for any reason,” although that option could be added. I don’t remember the additional cost.

This quote was a typical, basic insurance policy. I don’t think it would cover changing your mind because of the pandemic.

Thanks for sharing. Many who had this type of insurance reported being denied the claim when resorts were closed due to the pandemic.

As a renter, one wants to make sure they know exactly what will and will not be covered, especially in these uncertain times.

Personally, I would not risk doing a rental now unless they were a tremendous deal...like $10/$12 a point..but I wasn’t comfortable with the risks before owning DVC either.
