DVC Rent/Trade Board doesn't really trade??

hey I have a question, how come the DVC Rent/Trade Board doesn't really do "trade" points? You can rent points or transfer points or reservation, but can you really trade them?
The reason for this is: can we trade with fellow DVCers their home resort points? I am planning my vacation and I think I'd really need the 11 months booking adventage to book this particular resort at the time period I want. I am sure somewhere someone want to book at 11 months at my resort too right? Can we trade out points so we both get to book at each other's home resort at 11 month?

Am I making any sense??

The Rent/Trade Board has always allowed trades between members. You just need to use "Trade Wanted" as a title.

I'm confused, so what should I do to trade my points for points of the resort I need? I have not make any reservation yet because it is not the booking window yet.

I haven't done a trade but it's highly unlikely you'd find a person that will want to be staying the exact nights you want so you would not be making the reservation first.

I'd do an ad saying Trade wanted and list for what resort you want and what resort you have. If someone is looking to stay where you own they will answer and then you can discuss each of your dates.

It's a little unlikely that the reservations will be of equal value so some cash may have to come into it as well but of course that would be up to each of you.

And since you're looking for the 11 months window you should be posting prior to that opening up.

You would be in violation of the rules if you attempted to post an existing reservation - which is what it sounded like you wanted to do when you mentioned you couldn't since the 11 month hadn't opened yet. I don't know of any rule that would prevent you from posting for someone to trade reservations that do not yet exist although there have been some recent changes to the rules.

You can't really trade points unless you have several memberships as you are limited to one transfer in or out per year as is the person you are trading with. If you trade points and transfer them into someone's account then they cannot transfer points to you unless they have more than one membership also. You may however be able to trade reservations. You may have to post that you will trade a reservation at your home resort for a reservation at xxx resort but don't know if this will violate the rent trade rules or not. If you do not actually have a reservation in place then I don't think it does. maybe you need to post that you want to trade the 11 month advantage at your resort for the same at another one without mentioning specific dates unless that violates the no reservations wanted rule that was put in place recently. Good luck - maybe one of the moderators can help with how to word your posting.

There are ways to work that out if you make a reservation for the other owner and he/she makes one for you.

For example, the owner whose reservation uses the most points transfers points equal to the ("overage") to the owner whose reservation uses less points. Or the owner who uses more sends a cash payment to the other owner.

If you want to trade points, then do the transfers in different use years. Rule is one transfer per use year.

You can accept a transfer of points from another member into your 2010 Use Year and then (on the same day) transfer points from your 2011 Use Year to the same member. It is NOT impossible to to trade points with another DVCer.

You can also accept a transfer for this Use Year and transfer points back to them in the next Use Year - or you can have them make a reservation for you at their Home Resort and "pay" for that reservation by transferring your points to them - or you can make a reservation for another member using your Home Resort points and accept a transfer of their Home Resort points in payment.

Certainly, transfers (trades) have not been a frequent transaction on the Rent/Trade Board, but it has been done and is certainly an acceptable use of the board.

"Trade Wanted" is the proper title to use and then describe what you are really wanting to do. All it takes is one other member interested in points from your Home Resort to make it work. Admittedly, some Home Resorts may be more appealing than others for such transactions.

I found another member on the board who wanted to trade for my OKW points. He and his wife own VWL.

I made the ressie for them and when I need one at VWL, or another DVC within the seven month window, he makes a reservation for me using his points.

I was so very fortunate to be able to connect with fellow DVCers who are so trustworthy. We formed a friendship over this.
