Hi everyone, this is my first post I hope I'm doing it right. My wife and I bought 2 resale contracts last year . Boulder Ridge and Polynesian. I have booked both for the end of Oct 2021. Can anyone that has gone through their own resort refurbishment let us know what we can expect. The Poly now has a minor refresh scheduled in 2021 and BRV has a full refurbishment scheduled in 2022. I am thinking mostly about availability @ BRV in 2022, but all information will be helpful. Thanks!

Full refurbishment usually means everything is redone. SSR added the murphy beds/couch, replacing the pullout sofas. Minor refresh is usually paint and carpets, some furniture.

The full refurb at BRV in 2022 will, if plan stated at Dec 2018 members meeting stands, include replacing couch beds with pull down Murphy beds over a connected couch like SSR is getting now. However, changing to a reservation to 2022 will not assure getting a refurbed room since the fact that the refurb starts in 2022 does not mean it will be completed for all rooms when you intend to go in 2022..

I'm not looking to change my 2021 reservation, but wondering what availability there will be @ BRV with a full refurb in 2022. Does the entire DVC resort shut down, or does it stay open with say 50% capacity. I might want to borrow 50% of my 2022 points and bank the other 50% to 2023.

Refurbs usually are done in sections, e.g., start with rooms along one hallway on one floor (or more than one floor for the taller buildings like BLT), when done move to rooms on the other hallway on the same floor if there are two hallways. After finishing a floor via that cycle move on to another floor. At any given time, most of the resort remains open. To complete a resort refurb can take more than a year.

It sounds like I shouldn't have any trouble using my 2022 points. I probably want to book early at 11 month window though. Thanks for giving all the information!

They slowly start to remove any of the original theming. So they all become Hampton Inns.
I am so hoping that does not (continue) to prove true at BRV. We bought there because we WANT the WL theming!

They've already done it at BRV (when it was still VWL). They will keep a little art work, maybe a few touches of fabric colors. But expect it to not look anything like it did at first. I'm not a big fan of the current iteration. I like the original better.

That’s why I added the continue in there. And I agree with you. I like the original better. I also feel the hotel side now better theming than the DVC side. But maybe they’ll surprise us and the refurb was delayed so they can bring back the theming! ;-)

Yes like AKL, Initially the dinnerware was themed to the resort, then during a ‘refresh’ the dinnerware was replaced with stuff that you can find at any enlisted personnel chowhall.

Only a matter of time before the wonderful carved furniture is replaced with whats on sale at Ikea this week.

OKW had Fiestaware dishes in the early days. Also placemats.

That's something that Disney appears to fail to understand most of us bought DVC because we WANTED the unique theming that at one time was Disney Resorts trademark feature.

If we had wanted Hilton Garden Inn we would have bought into Hilton's time share program.

But it was some incidents best not remembered and the constant defurbishment of the properties which led us to sell.

Full disclosure HGI's are some of my favorite Hilton properties for business travel as you never need to leave them Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner + decent bar and a comfortable room.
