Dvc / reciprocal points with RCI.

Hi,

thinking re the sanibel Island, Naples area next year with our DVC points. Any suggestions for a nice place? I know nothing re this process!

Two really quick things:

• You can search the RCI inventory yourself after logging into the DVC Member website.
  Are you successful reaching RCI and navigating to the inventory currently available in Southern Florida on the Gulf Coast?
• Look for Resort Reviews! RCI offers ratings and reviews on the resort information page. These are a good start for making your initial impression and narrowing your list. I prefer using the resort reviews on the Timeshare User Group (TUG) website for more careful evaluation of my short list. TUG's resort reviews are "by members, for members" ($15 for the 1st year, less on renewal) so tend to better mirror the expectations of timeshare travelers rather than hotel travelers. (Timeshare folks are more apt to appreciate the kitchen and in-room laundry over walking distance to town center for restaurants.)

You may find a better deal renting your points then just booking the RCI resort direct or via TUG.

It's really hard to get SW FL Gulf Coast timeshares via RCI. I used to own Charter Club of Marco Island before we moved here. I tried to trade via Hilton and had no luck with much of anything other than one of the resorts in Orlando. I agree with BillPA about renting your points and then booking with cash. Last two years we have had bad red tide; last year wasn't quite as bad as the year before but for some reason Sanibel and Captiva seem to get it a bit worse than we do on Marco Island.
