Totally know the feeling, we had a "Timeshare talk" at Big Cedar Lodge in Branson that was worse than going to the doctors. We felt very pressured and the guy even told us we "were throwing our childrens future away"... We were already
DVC owners so we just laughed about it and suffered through it (it was for the room credit or I would never have done it)...
Disney Vacation Club is great. Our in-laws actually bought first and not too long after that they purchased an add-on. They were very excited about the whole thing and convinced us to purchase. They live in Michigan so it was a good option for them, but we live locally so we never really thought about it (since we don't stay on property often). We bought the minimum points avalaible just to get started and see what we would need. You really have a lot of options with DVC. You are not limited to certain resorts you can stay anywhere on Disney property, it just isn't in your best interest to stay at a Non-DVC resort, only because the points per night are much higher that way. The DVC resorts on WDW property are really nice, and even the smallest room (a studio) is larger than a standard room at one of the regular WDW hotels. You also have the option to use your points at
Disneyland California, Paris, Hong King, Tokyo and the
Disney Cruise Line. They have exchange programs where you can give a weeks worth of your points for a weeks worth of someoneleses at timeshares across the world. There is an option to stay nightly at hotels in the US, Canada, London and the Bahamas as well as trips of a lifetime (African Safaris and such). All in all when we looked into it and realized that we were not restricted solely to Disney World, we realized that it was a good options even for us and great for the future. Who knows where we will be living in 10 years, we may be the family that vacations to Disney every year from somewhere far away.
The sales people for DVC are really nice and they don't pressure you into it. We actually took the full tour about 4 years ago and decided not to buy then, we never felt uncomfortable with them, never felt pressured. When we did decide to buy in we were very excited about taking the tour again and being able to really put our focus towards becoming members.
