DVC: Pop Century?

They are tearing down the 2 building and the main hall, as building codes have changed so much, that it's cheaper for them to just start all over then to retrofit them with the upgrades.

That actually makes sense. They have been sitting vacant for so long that the inside of the buildings are probably gross anyhow.

I do think the value priced family Suites thing is a good idea though.

The nearest resort as the crow flies to Pop Century, is Caribbean Beach. It's literally just behind the trees that line the driveway into Pop Century. All Star anything is some distance away.. actually in a different county!

As for tearing down the buildings.. I wouldn't be surprised if they could keep the Main Hall building. It's well closed up and has been used as a staging area for housekeeping and grounds maintenance. So that building is not exactly empty and unused.

The two pods of actual 'rooms' buildings probably will have to be torn down, but in the grand scheme of things, that's hardly a large cost. They are pretty much entirely empty and unfinished inside. One of the two pods doesn't even have the central stairwells or elevator building built.

On the other hand.. I am not sure that building codes have changed that much since 2001 or 2002. The buildings themselves - I have had a very upclose look (ahem) are in good shape and while some of the rooms would have to be sandblasted, it's just concrete, they could be sandblasted and cleaned before further construction continued.

I did not see any structural integrity problems, obvious cracks or similar, but then of course, I'm not a structural engineer either.
