Our May 2021 Transatlantic cruise has been cancelled. The email from Disney does not specify how the points we used to book will be handled. Does anyone know how 2020 points banked into 2021 will be handled?

We had cruise cancelled earlier this year paid with points. It was a bit confusing and we got different stories each time we talked to someone. I'm sure part of that was how much it was in flux for folks involved. In the end, once points are taken out of system they are no longer points. They become a credit of undetermined amount that you can use against future cruise. They can't give you an amount until you pick a cruise because (apparently) there are different points/dollar ratios for different cruises. Sort of unsettling and you can't help but wonder if you are being fleeced. In the end we switched a northern European 7-day for WBPC which is longer. We didn't have to pay as much more as I feared but I don't know what dollars to dollars would have been.

The points used to book are now Reservation Points and can only be used within the Disney Collection, including for a cruise.

I have points from the cancelled Alaska Member cruise which I rebooked for a January cruise that was just cancelled. You can either return the points as reservation points to the correct use year-but, they can’t be used at DVC properties or take a 125% future cruise credit on points. If you took the future cruise credit option, I was told I’ll get to use them on another cruise plus a 25% reduction of the point value needed on the new cruise. Another agent said it’s an additional 25% of the points I had on the cancelled cruise. So you’re right-different versions of exactly what we get. Apparently there is a special team that will rebook once we pick the new cruise. Unfortunately, they can’t be used on member cruises though. I have another cruise booked on points that will probably be cancelled as well, so am hoping they push back the use by date.

DVC made our 3 canceled cruises extremely confusing because of different CMs giving different interpretations of the cancelation policies andFCCs.
The September B2B was canceled by DCL and we received two emails on 6/19/2020 informing us of the situation and FCCs or refund options (of which FCC is automatically initiated and you have to request a refund of cash or DVC points/credits). Two separate cruises and two separate email notifications. I called the number for DCL/DVC and was told by one CM I could get the refund for the first cruise because it was DVC points and cash then retain the FCCs for the second cruise (all DVC points). After talking it over with the extended family (2 staterooms) they decided they needed the cash more than another cruise.
I called back and got another CM who was having a bad day like I was the 10,000th person she was dealing with that morning. I stated I needed a refund cash/points for the first cruise confirmation number XXXX and the FCCs for the second cruise confirmation number XXXX. She informed me they consider it one cruise. I again informed her I had two confirmation numbers and two emails notifying me DCL canceled each cruise and I want a refund for the first cruise and the FCCs from the second cruise. She came back with "are you canceling your cruise yeas or no". I repeated I want a refund for the first cruise XXXX and FCCs for the second cruise XXXX. Oh you want a refund? Yes for cruise XXXX and FCCs for cruise XXXX. She starts reading a script about cancelation, refund, point year, and other whatever . . . thank you for calling DCL. CLICK. I thought 'what just happened'?
Called the next day and was on the phone for one hour and 47 minutes with the CM and two supervisors (but they had some other unique title). They said I canceled both cruises yesterday. I said to listen to the recording, I canceled nothing but asked for a refund for cruise XXXX and FCCs for cruise XXXX. I think they did go back to the recording because they were gone a long time. They came back with refunding the cash and putting our points back to the use year but no FCCs. All this happened in the first week of July 2020. I waited for the dust to settle from the initial notification of June 19th because the phone lines were crazy busy.
Within a week I found a January 2021 cruise and called in to get reservations (DVC). We had so many points (no FCCs just year use) that we upgraded to the concierge. Great. But that was just recently canceled.
We had a May 2021 cruise already on the books (DVC points). When Jan 2021 was canceled I ask if the points could be transferred to the May 2021 cruise and upgrade to concierge. No, it had to be canceled and rebooked using the additional points put back into the use years. OK, fine whatever. Got the last concierge room booked. Then I was informed that 248 of my points from Sept/Jan had to be used by end of use year August 2021. OK fine. Then I was informed that because of canceling May and rebooking I was going to pay a 20% penalty. Not fine, but OK, use the 248 points I'm losing at the end of August. No, can't use THOSE point but took them from UY 2021.
When we finally get on a cruise from moving points around, I will never use DVC points again for a cruise but rent them out and pay cash!!!!

Probably one of the smarter plans. Just be sure to do some research on the rental companies. Their responses to COVID closures and reservations has been varied. If you aren't tracking the DVC forum, be sure to check it out over there.

Yes, I track the DVC/renting points closely including choosing a rental agency. 2020 has been an uncharted voyage for so many industries with exceptions to the rules that were never considered when establishing terms of the agreement between parties. I'll be looking at UY Sept 2021 points to rent. Hopefully, by mid-2021 the travel industry and rental agencies will have a better grasp on how to move forward.

Last week we were told our 'leftover: 2019 points to be used for January 2021 WDW 10 day visit MUST be used by July 30 or we lose them!! We were quite surprised as we did not have plans or reservations to return until fall.
