DVC points ? & other questions (new owner)

Greetings all!

We just recently became owners at AKV... we just received our final paper work and member #s

Originally when I signed into the DVC site this is how it looked... (we purchased 200 points and were told that they still had last years points, so 400 and somehow we ended up with 600)

2012 400 0
2013 200 0

my husband contacted them and explained that we just got title and the woman kindly moved 200 points around so now it looks like this!!

My alerts on my home page look like this...

•You do not have any Vacation Points for Member ID number XXXXXXXXXXX available to bank at this time because your banking window is at 0%.
•Currently, you may request a reservation for a Disney Cruise Line® vacation that has a sail date on or before October 16, 2015, some sailings may not be available for booking at the 24-month window.
•Currently, you may request a reservation at your Home Resort for vacations that have a check-in date on or before September 16, 2014, based upon availability.
•Currently, you may request a reservation at any Disney Vacation Club Resort for vacations that have a check-in date on or before May 16, 2014, based upon availability.
•This Use Year's remaining Vacation Points for Member ID number XXXXXXXXXXX will expire on the last business day of November 2013.


It looks like we ended up with 200 more then we originally knew about but now looking at this I do have a couple questions:

looking at those charts and the alerts does that it mean we have to use all 600 points by Nov 30??

do we have to book and use them before Nov 30th or can I book a trip today for Aug 2014 using the 2012 and 2013 points or say wait until Nov 29th to book my home resort for Xmas of 2014?

Also, I know I can transfer my points to RCI world passport; but when I try to click the Book RCI it is giving me an alert... do I have to create an RCI account and get it linked before I can do that or am I missing something?

sorry for all the "newbie" questions but I'm trying to figure this all out quickly

I have found myself with a similar issue as you now have ... not quite sure when the points must be used, and not quite sure how to verify it. When all else fails, I've called Member Services by phone, given them a synopsis, and they have been SO helpful to let me know what must be used and by when.

Actually, I have some points right NOW that are available to be used and I'd confused myself again back in the summer about when that had to happen. My boys tell me that the 'artificial intelligence' (my hair color is brown, but they're sure I'm dying it and that the blonde roots show through too much!) just isn't cutting it when I cannot keep some things straight in my head!

I sure hope you can get your head around the points you have, when you can use them and where, and find the happy medium to let your dreams come true! We use ours almost exclusively for cruises these days ... totally awesome!

1 - i suspect they screwed up by moving the pts to 2013. if you bought direct, maybe they gave you a late banking option for the 2012 pts but direct contracts would not usually include banked 2011 UY pts.

you should understand that you are still in your 2012 UY.

it is a "use" year, so you'd have to use the banked 2011 UY and current 2012 UY pts for a stay by the end of nov 2013 (that is when your 2012 UY ends).

if they banked your 2012 UY pts into 2013, then those must be used (for a stay) by nov 30, 2014.

your dec 2013 UY pts are valid for stays from dec 1, 2013 to nov 30, 2014 - so they would not expire this november unless you borrowed them to make a reservation.

a dec UY is complicated since you are usually traveling in a different calendar year than your UY. (so don't look at a calendar.)

Welcome!

As I read the elements quoted, you need to use 200 points before Nov 30. That is, if booking them for a DVC resort stay, the vacation dates for those 200 points must complete by the end of this November.

I'm not sure how they might be extended through RCI. Would be worth a call to Member Services to inquire.

Did you buy directly from Disney or resale?

It looks almost like you purchased resale, and that the previous owners banked all of their 2011 December points, and did not bank their 2012 points (which member services over-rode and banked for you) and you have 2013 points coming Dec 1, 2013.

If that is what happened, you have 200 banked points that have to be used by Nov. 30, 2013. And you have 200 banked 2012 points plus 200 2013 points (400 total) that can be used for stays between December 1, 2013 and Nov. 30, 2014. You can also bank the 200 2013 points in to the 2014 use year, once your 2013 use begins on December 1, 2103. You will have to use the 200 banked 2012 points for stays December 1, 2013 to November 30, 2014. December use years are "weird" because they fall almost one full calendar year late.

We were able to get our 200 points from 2011 moved to RCI thankfully I think I finally understand this December UY stuff!
