DVC Points Mix Up

Has anyone ever had DVC mess up their points allotment? We have scheduled a big family trip in May 2011. The reservations would have used all of our 2010 (Banked), 2011, 2012 (partial use) points. I called today because the points on the DVC Member Page did not look right. The rep from MS has been great, but stumped. Our reservation is confirmed and the points required match my calculations. HOWEVER, our account shows we used all of our 2010, have MAJORITY of our 2011 points remaining, and have ALL of our 2012. I am happy the error is in our favor, but these are not our points to use.

ANYONE have any similar problem or thoughts?

Did you by any chance have any 2009 points banked into 2010 that would have been good through May of 2011? Those would have been used first. You didn't say what your use year is so it could be possible.

We had a similar thing happen a year ago, I checked online and I was :yay: loads of points didn't understand why but :) anyway. A week or so later they were corrected automatically without my calling.

We got full 2009 points as incentive for signing at beginning of 2010. We did back them into 2010 but used all for trip in May of 2010. Use year is Feb.

I have had a similar problem - I was missing 12 points and it took me several hours on the phone with MS to get it straightened out. In the end, I had 2 more points that I shouldn't have, but I was done wasting my own time trying to sort it out. My activity statement was an absolute mess by the time they made all the adjustments. So yes, it happens, and trying to get to the bottom of it and getting it straight is not always possible.

Other than the ethics involved, what's to prevent a member from using the extra points still shown in their account? This computer glitch sounds like something MS needs to get fixed.

Of course if a member did use the points for a reservation and later MS fixes the system the reservation could disappear.

Too bazaar, I like my computers to be logical and not have a mind of it's own.:badpc:

DVC has twice confused our points. Both times were, according to DVC, the result of having points transferred into our account (apparently that causes chaos in the accounting). Interestingly, I made several phone call to MS over a 4 month period pointing out their error which left additional points in my account...to no avail. Finally, I decided to use the extra points, was able to book a room, get a confirmation and then Disney acknowledged the point error. Lesson learned...keep track of your own points. So for our September trip, I knew exactly where my points were and how I spent then. Still, MS called me about 2 weeks before the trip and told me there was an error and DVC credited me too many points, but they would "let me keep them". They didn't credit me too many points, they weren't doing me any favors but I didn't feel like going through hoops again with MS. I said thanks and hung up. I see each of my points as a $ and wish MS were as efficient with my $$$$'s as my bank....it is my experience that they are not.

Have you viewed the activity statement on dvcmember.com? It should show all the transactions, the points used and the balances after each transaction.

My Membership > Vacation Points > View Activity Statement > View Vacation Details

One time I had plenty of current points to use for a reservation and instead they borrowed points from the following year. I caught it by looking online. They were able to fix it.

Just my experience, but I have found dvcmember.com to be the least reliable resource for my point balance. Perhaps I'm the exception and admittedly I have points transferred in every other year (or so) which do not get credited to my activity statement...still, I've learned to trust only my own accounting...and to remain able to argue, errr, rather, discuss with MS as needed. :3dglasses

Definitely keep your own accounting. I always ask MS to confirm my balances by use year after I make a transaction over the phone. But the time that it didn't match up, I went to dvcmember.com to figure out what they did. It didn't match up over the phone but the MS cm insisted it was right. I had a feeling she didn't know what she was doing. So I hung up and went online and saw what she did. Then I called back.
