We will be going on the Disney Cruise with 5 families in 2008. Will it work out better to save up our DVC points or sell them and pay cash.
Depends on the value you place on your points.brasey said:We will be going on the Disney Cruise with 5 families in 2008. Will it work out better to save up our DVC points or sell them and pay cash.
Selling points is too easy to make the mistake of using points for a cruise.I also made a cash reservation for the Jan 4, 2007 before I bought our DVC resale. The total cost for 2 cat 11 staterooms for 4 people came to $2907. We wanted 2 rooms so the boys could each have their own bed. This same cruise on points for the same 2 staterooms will be 268 points. At $10 per point, that makes the DVC cruise price over $200 cheaper. The only reason I feel that using points is a wise choice for us is because we are getting 2 rooms. In one room, we would be losing money, and be very cramped at night also.TreesyB said:I don't think there are better deals for DVC cruises. Just special perks (like prizes, etc.).
The way I calculated my points, with my purchase, and current dues they are at $5.60 per point. With those points, I was able to book a cruise for 2 on Jan.4th, 2007 at $1150. all together. I got a quote for cash at: $1701. So I saved about $300/person, and I consider it a lot easier to do, than figure out how to rent points out to someone.
And I'm from Canada, so then I would have to deal with foreign exchange too!
Points was so much easier to deal with.
