What is the point conversion to exchange DVC points for a DC?? I know that there are different room prices/points, but does anyone have a rough estimate or a link to find this info?? Thanks in advance!!!!

We used points to book our upcoming June, 2011 cruise. The cruise cost 301 points (plus the $95 transfer fee), and the cash equivalent would have been about $2,500. Sure, we would have saved money renting our points out and paying cash, but the hassle and uncertaintly involved in the renting process wasn't worth it to us. Good luck! :goodvibes

I see you are not a DVC member yet. It's best to use DVC points to stay in DVC lodging and not for other options. Don't plan on using DVC points to travel the world, cruise, etc. It's not always that easy to get those other options with points.

We are going to be buying into the DVC early in 2011. I am just trying to research everything I can to see how to optimize our points for maximum fun stuff! LOL I am also trying to figure out how many to purchase! I am thinking that we will get about 250 points at BCV or BWV...does that sound like a decent amount of points per year?? We have been going 2x a year, btw!

Although you will find 250 points an excellent start to ownership (I started with 270) they will go very fast to cruise. In fact, you probably will not pay for two adults plus children with those points to cruise.

I would advise paying cash for cruises until you choose to add on additional points which then will give you more to "play" with in vacation decision making. Good luck! :)

I also would not count on using DVC points for a cruise, this perk can be terminated at any time.

Thanks CarolAnnC and jlewisinsyr!

I will not count on it...I was just wondering if that would be an option, but I do not want to use up ALL my points for a year on a DIS cruise...LOL...I need my WDW fix! Haha

Another consideration is the cancellation policy if very different when using points vs cash.

Are you talking about all DVC ressies or just using points for cruises?? I think I am ruling out the option of using DVC points. I will just pay cash! :thumbsup2

Once you use points to make a reservation outside of DVC, you can no longer use those points to stay in a DVC resort if you have to cancel.

In general, cruises yield about $7.50-8 per point in value. If the cash price of the cruise is $3000, you would probably have to spend 375-400 points.

That's just a very rough estimate but it seems to hold true for every cruise I've priced out.

Thanks everyone! The info has been really helpful in deciding on DCV and weighing out the DCL option...or no option! LOL
