DVC point transfer to relative or rental from forum?

My uncle is a DVC member and I was looking to rent points for a weekend trip on the board. Would it be an easier process to have my uncle get points transferred to his account and let him make the reservation? Otherwise I would just work through the renter. Anything I should consider?

I believe owners are allowed only one transfer per year, so it's up to the owner of the points whether or not they want to transfer.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both strategies. The nice thing about transfers is once the points are in your uncle's account, they are there and he can book your room and control the reservation. WIth a rental, the original owner would control the reservation until you check-in, so if they get behind in dues or mortgage payments, your reservation could be lost, but the vast majority of owners are fine to deal with. I think working through your uncle would be more comfortable, if you can find a transfer.

Like Chuck said, working with your uncle is more comfortable. If your uncle never transfers points in/out of his account, then that's pretty easy. However, if he's also renting/transfering points to indivduals, you're better off just booking with a member here. Run it by him first!

Keep in mind that transfers are not always easy to find. Also, your uncle may have to take more points than you need for your reservation. Will you be asking him to pay for the extra points? If not, maybe renting a reservation would be less expensive.

We needed more points for our anniversary trip so I bought points from a good friend and she transferred the points into my account.

Likewise, a few times I've hosted our family reunion and needed points for a grand villa and I will only purchase transfer points. Transfer points do not appear on your DVC account but the reservation will when you make it. I've done paypal each time, did a little research on the owner through their posts and replies etc. and I've never had a problem. I don't like someone else having control of my reservation.
