DVC Point Transfer Rules

Waitlists are per membership so not sure why they would transfer.

I think it’s one of the confusing things sometimes mentioned when people talk about two UYs.

You get extra waitlists, but not for the same reservations or points.
Yes it confused me at first that they don't follow the points transferred but now it makes sense that you are transferring into a membership that only has two waitlists

I tried to do a points transfer yesterday from one of my memberships to another of mine, but I was told not possible since I've already did one.

Was told new rules and was referred to the ones we already know about. I even tried to chat with someone else, same reply.

I know the multiple "internal" transfers was a courtesy by MS, but still, my last one was done like 2-3 weeks ago without problems.

Yup, new guidance on the rule. Probably to help with the buy/strip/flip commercial renter crowd….. but it does make owning more than 1 UY more of a pain.

Someone else mentioned that and if that is the reason behind it, it makes sense since on thr flip side they are now allowing owners to transfer banked and borrowed points!

It is a nice trade off… but if you modify a reservation and it frees up a extra few points it is unfortunate that you can no longer transfer those stragglers to another membership if you had already done one earlier in the year.

And since this is a new enforcement, it can handicap people who already did this with 2025/2026 points.

I wish there was a de minimus exemption….

I talked to a supervisor yesterday and she seemed very knowledgeable about the subject.

She explained that it’s indeed new policy due to members being able to transfer borrowed and banked points. Also but more importantly it’s a way for them to protect (that’s the word she used) the inventory. Apparently very large points owners, some with 20 memberships have a tendency to pool points and book up inventory and rent it.

Personally I can understand that reasoning but I still think it’s sad that some are allowed to ruin it for the rest of us.

But hey they promised to look into the rental and walking issue and this might be one of the ways they address it.

Sadly, I updated the main post to reflect no more than one transfer between your own memberships. I am glad they are doing something about commercial renting/contract flipping just sucks it punishes the rest of us.

Great.

One thing I forgot to ask about when talking to the supervisor is IF we are only allowed to do 1 internal transfer + 1 external transfer or if it’s either 1 internal or 1 external. 🤷‍♂️

Unfortunately I think it’s the latter.

To fix one thing, they make changes that may not be ones we think about or prefer happen.

It certainly will put a cramp into that practice for those owners who were doing it to rent in a way that can be seen as commercial purpose.

And it will also prevent owners from holding so many points that they can hold a room for the full 30 days with a walk.

But this is the drawback of changes…some get hit with them who aren’t the target.

Wow never really even thought about this.

I’ll remember @Sandisw saying months ago that whatever changes they might implement might not be what we think of nor what we thought we asked for.

That’s why be careful what you wish for, the consequences might hit you harder than you think.
Personally for me since I go to DLR often it's very important for me for commercial renting to be stopped. So this is what I asked for. Maybe they will bring it back in the future if they are able to put a significant dent in commercial renting/flipping.

To add, this is why I think we haven’t really seen anything in terms of walking yet because they indicated they will take any unintended consequences into consideration when making rule changes for thst.

This transfer change allowed them to give us more, banking and borrowing, but taking away something from owners with multiple memberships.

They know what percentage of owners who have been doing more than one and my guess is it impacts the renters more than the average owner so worth the impact to those.

That’s true!

It certainly does affect me, as I have transferred in 2026 points for a VGC booking next summer.

That means no transfers between my 2 memberships until 2027 points, and I have some 2026 stragglers that I need to use from one membership. I hope that they will allow me to bank those to 2027, and transfer for that year - but who knows!

The good news is the more than one for owners hasn’t been around that long and was never official.

So, hopefully no one bought with that expectation!!

While I don’t know for sure, I think that banked 2026 points, since they now sit in the 2027 UY will count as part of any 2027 UY points you want to move!

I hope so! But I’m sure I will find a way to use them if not possible to transfer - not ideal for me, but as you say it’s just collateral damage in trying to address other concerns.

What do you guys think if I transfer AKV points now to BLT and then when my SSR finalizes do you think they will have mercy to let me transfer 9 SSR points into one of them because I didn't have that contract before to transfer into one of them 🤔
