DVC Point Transfer Rules

I don't think i've seen this answered.
for the 1 time per year transfer, that's 1x per use year. is that the UY the points are in (12/23 points banked to 12/24 & then transferred; 12/25 points borrowed to 12/24. the UY is '24 for both) or is it the original UY of the points (so the example would be '23 UY or 25' UY)? or is it based on the UY when the transaction takes place? anytime now for the next 7 months, it would be '24 UY (for a December contract)?

It’s based on the UY of the points being transferred. So, banked 2023 points are now in the 2024 UY which means transferring them counts as your one in or out for the 2024 UY.

You can then transfer them to any UY that is still within its 2024 UY that hasn’t had one.

Same with borrowed points…they are now 2024 UY points so that what it would count as

Now, when you transfer, you can choose which ones to send as long as they are going to one membership.

So, you could transfer both banked 2023. 2024 , and borrowed 2025 to one owner in the same transaction.

I have a question. I will have 1 night booked with my direct membership and I want to use my resale points from a different membership for the rest of the nights. I understand MS wont be able to merge those reservations. If I transfer the points over to my direct membership will I be able to book the remaining nights and merge them?

Yes, or you can just modify the existing 1 night res to add the resale points (assuming you are in the 7 month window).

I was thinking...

Now that they are supposedly limiting transfers to 1 even between the same person's different memberships, would there be any real downside (other than using up your allotted transfers) for a person with 2 use years/memberships to just go ahead and transfer all of their points as soon as member services lets them from one membership to the other and just use one membership for all their bookings?

Now that we can bank and borrow, wouldn't it just be easier if all the points were in the same membership to book with? No burning your transfer on moving a few points for a single reservation and risk stranding points later, when you can just book them all off of one membership after transferring everything. Does this sound right?

This is especially true if your SAPs are in a different membership and you have a waitlist for a YOLO room with SAPs….

Or you are like me and see a reservation pop up and decide yes Im gonna do it, you call MS to transfer, by the time they pick up and all the verification and pleasantries are over the room is gone. If points were already transferred I would've secured the room. ( just happened 10 min ago)

Transferred points from a different resort and UY do not play nice online at 11 months so you’d lose that hour for booking.

We prefer just having them noted and linked instead of transfer because you can’t see them anymore on your dashboard.

Hmm. I've only transferred between mine once but the contract did show up to choose as one of my home resorts when booking in the membership I transferred them to.

Are you saying if I had tried to use those points to make an 11 month reservation online at that resort it wouldn't work?

It shows up as a temporary contract when you go to book, but it won’t show up in your dashboard.

The only report that I have seen where transferred points worked online during the home resort period was when they were the same resort and UY of the membership they went in to.

And that person said that once they banked some of them, they no longer worked online for home resort booking.

When they are different, people have to call. Once you hit 7 months, then they work fine.

Huh. I wonder if that is intended or not? If they are going to limit transfers they should at least make sure the points work correctly if we transfer them

They do work, just not online. My theory is The system blocks transferred points during home resort because that’s what OTU points are…and you don’t get home priority with those.

ETA. Allowing owners to transfer more than once was never actually a rule but a courtesy they gave us.

Well, probably not worth transferring every year then.

I hope they fix it in the future. They should be able to easily add a OTUP tag to points vs real transfers where home priority is still supposed to work. So it will probably be fixed quickly by Disney IT, in maybe 9 years or so...

My guess is there are a lot morre OTU points than transfers between owners that make it something not in need of a fix…well, at least IMO.

The waitlists not transferring sucks i feel like that's the one benefit to having multiple memberships. So far I've been successful in avoiding transfers for this year. The thing that scares me the most is borrowing too many points and then changing reservations and not being able to bank them all.

Waitlists are per membership so not sure why they would transfer.

I think it’s one of the confusing things sometimes mentioned when people talk about two UYs.

You get extra waitlists, but not for the same reservations or points.
