Dvc point transfer question

Question- I would like to buy extra points by transfer from another owner. When noting points expire for example 2/2014 does that mean reservation needs to be made by that time (for a future trip) or does it mean trip needs to be completed by then? Thanks for help

The trip has to be completed by 2/28/14.
