Hi all,

I am hopefully going to be a first time DVC point renter this year. Being a newbee at this I had a question I hope you guys and gals can help me with.

.............. I'd like to secure this as early as possible. But I am concerned about use year issues the DVC member might have WRT to cancellation. Will I have any problems renting points if I want to get the reservation done in the next 30 days or so, and want to have the ability to cancel for a full refund before reaching 30 days prior to checkin? If this will be problematic, how do people handle this kind of situation?

Thanks,

Bill

I doubt many members would agree to a full refund @ 30 days. Most have a no refund policy because those points are tied up and can be difficult to rebook depending on the member's use year, if the points are banked or borrowed. If you are looking for the ability to refund, you should book through Disney.

I've edited the first two posts to remove specific details. Rental offers and requests (or any post that might be construed as one) are only allowed on the Rent/Trade Board. Very general questions on renting are allowed on the other forums.

OP - Please be wary of any Private Messages or emails you might receive offering to rent to you. See this thread:

Have you been contacted about renting by PM or email?

I agree with DebbieB. You will probably not get any member who will give you the right to cancel. At all. If youthink you may need to cancel, you need to book through Disney directly, not through a member. Their points do have a shelf life.

Thanks folks. I was afraid that it would be difficult to be able to cancel a trip when DVC point renting is involved. We have some medical issues in the family that make a flexible cancellation policy pretty much mandatory for us. Thus, I will be looking into CRO room-only reservations.

There are a couple of alternatives.

First of all, I agree that most owners would not agree to a cancellation like you asked about. But you don't need to rent from MOST owners. You only need to rent from one that you are comfortable with. I'd read the stickies on the R/T board and go from there.

Two -- trip insurance is available. Travel Guard issues trip insurance policies for DVC rentals, and they're a very good industry-leader kind of company. With trip insurance, it's important to know very specifically what the covered issues are, but generally medical issues in the immediate family ARE covered. That option will require some research, but it's worth exploring.

Obviously CRO has more flexible cancellation policies, but they are certainly not the only game in town.

I personally don't think you will get someone to rent their points to you, you need to understand that if someone rents points to you for let's say a April vacation, but those points expire in June, by you backing out and wanting all your money back puts the owner in a position where he only has 2 more months to use use them, he may not be able to get reservations because of unavailibility and he's screwed. And also a reservation cancelled at 30 days to 1day, the points don't go back to the member as normal points, they go into a holding account which have their own difficult rules.

So if you need the flexibility to cancel, then you're gonna have to go through Disney and pay the full price

So if you need
