DVC Perks for Friends using Points

Due to a family situation, I have a number of points in a holding account for this year. I would like to book a vacation for our best friends. Since I am giving her my points would she qualify for the DVC perks for dining and shopping? We have never given our points out to anyone before.

My unpaid guests have been able to use the dining and discount type perks in the past, however, more and more places are now asking for the actual DVC Membership card, so that may be slowly coming to an end. It never hurts to ask for the server/cashier for any applicable discount, as long as she understands some venues may deny it.

They have never been allowed to receive the Annual Pass Discount, that is exclusive to members and their immediate family living in the same residence.

Also, she may or may not get the DVC free internet access. If they decide to charge her, she wont really have any recourse, since she wont have a members card.

I would not plan or offer DVC Perks for non owners using your membership. I would encourage them to read some other boards here on the DIS to seek out perks or discounts such as for Annual Pass Holders (if they have AP's), Disney VISA cardholder discounts, etc. The Budget Board may have some good tips there, too. We've made reservations for others and they did get all the perks we did as members. But the way it's worded, there seems to be some ambiguity to it.

3. Making Reservations for Non-Club Members

1) Club Members may use their Home Resort Vacation Points to reserve Vacation Homes that will be occupied by non-Club Members.
2) When a Club Member uses his or her Home Resort Vacation Points to reserve Vacation Homes on behalf of a non-Club Member, and the Club Member does not charge any rental or other fees to the non-Club Member for the reservation, the non-Club Member is eligible for all or some of the Club
Member privileges and benefits that a Club Member would normally receive during his or her stay in the reserved Vacation Home. If the non-Club Member is renting, it is the responsibility of the Member to notify Member Services when making the reservation. Member privileges and benefits cannot be
extended to non-Club Members who rent Vacation Homes from Club Members.

Very interesting. My DD and soon to be DSIL are using our points for their honeymoon in September. I was wondering how this would work. Especially since her legal address will still be ours until they get back from the honeymoon. Should we send one of our membership cards with them? I'm not sure if they will need it. But it would be great if they could get an occasional discount.

I have put an excerpt below from the guide which is quoted above. As stated the benefits are for some not all. This is the only one I could find in the Guide that includes other guests of DVC Members:

A 25% discount off the cost of one non-discounted 18-hole round of golf for tee times before 10:00 a.m. and a 40% discount for tee times after 10:00 a.m. at Disney’s Magnolia, Palm, Lake Buena Vista, or Osprey Ridge Golf Courses for the Cardholder and up to three of their guests. Greens fees and required golf carts are included

In a way, they do. But, most discount perks, like Dining perks, are not solely under the control of DVC or Disney. Many are offered by privately held venues, like Ghiradelli, Raglan Rd, Landry's (Rainforest/T-Rex/Yak & Yeti), and so on. Many WDW restaurants are not Disney controlled, so those venues may offer those discounts differently.

Exactly, and this is why you will not see them mentioned in the Member Benefits Guide..

Many of these other venues do, in fact, ask for your Blue DVC Membership Card to honor the discount being offered.

We were just at OKW a few weeks ago and the DVC member is no longer stamped on the key cards given at check in. I was told that in order to obtain the discounts, I needed to have my DVC ID card. That was no problem since I always bring it along.

I'm glad you pointed this out. We just returned from our 2 week trip at OKW (a week ago). While at the front desk on day two trying to sort out some of our DDP/split stay issue, there was a couple in front of us and boy did they have some issues. The were charged for internet the entire trip and were there trying to get it off their charge. They did have to show that they were the DVC member too. So they do request the precious blue card sometimes.

Yep, as WDWSnooper posted, they don't put DVC member on your card anymore. Our cards said "DVC room only". Of course earlier while trying to do a ddp partial (ugh) one set of our cards said delux ddp (no mention of DVC) and another set said "DVC multiple" (the dining folks didn't like this one at all). But on day two when we were on our third set of rooms cards (and the ones that continued to work throughout our stay) they both said "DVC room only".
