Do DVC members get discounts on park tickets or just annual passes?

thanks!
nat

$100.00 discount on the Annual Pass. That's it. I use the Internet sites for discounts for MYW tickets.

$100 off on annual park tickets is a HUGE deal! I doubt we could ask for a better discount than that.

I don't know, maybe its just me, but I think that DVC owners should receive free park admission as long as we are owners based upon the number of points purchased. For example, starting at 200 points, you would receive admission for 2 people. At 400 points, 3 people. Etc, etc. As much as we pay to become members, it is my belief that we should get free passes. They know we are going to come back year after year, buying meals and purchasing gifts and souvenears. Maybe that's just it. They know we will and they are going to milk us for a little bit more...

That was a perk when DVC first started, but you'll never see it again. They don't have to do it to sell their product.

Sorry, but I don't see why. When they gave the free passes, it was to encourage people to buy into DVC the first few years. DVC is not owned by Walt Disney World. Why shoud members get free passes???? Do you expect to get free admission to attractions at other DVC resorts not on site too? If someone owns 200 HHI points, they should automatically get free tickets to WDW? I guess I don't see your point. If you didn't buy into DVC because you wanted to visit WDW, then why weren't you expecting to buy WDW tickets? Do you want them to pay your airfare and rental car too?

If HUGE Deal is in reference to my "that's it", I was referring to tickets. Not the fact that it is $100.00. I think $100.00 is great for those that purchase the annual pass, we all don't purchase annual passes for our family. Some of us still purchase MYW tickets.

It's a huge deal if it's of use to you. We have school age children who unfortunately can't be pulled out of school (this was the last year, it's just gotten too hard to make up the work). We go once a year, so an annual pass is of no use to us.

I think you totally misunderstood me. I never said I expected to receive free passes, or didn't expect to buy tickets. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they decided to give us the $100 annual pass discount. Its just that for as much money as we, as owners have paid to become members, that we should be allowed into the parks for free. After all, they say "Welcome Home" and then charge you to enter 'your own backyard playground.' Of course, you don't have to go to the parks and yes, I would expect HHI to be included in the free parks for free as well. Why? Because it is still DVC and both WDW and DVD/DVC are different entities of Disney which makes them sisters. There is no need for them to pay for the airfare. Why? Because that is an expense in getting there. The same as anyone else, but it is that anyone else hasn't forked over a lot of money for a vacation ownership. I never rent a car. There is no need for a car. Disney will take you anywhere you wish to go on their property. They pick you up from the airport for free already. It would be nothing out of their pocket to give free access to the parks. In fact, you would probably be inclined to make more purchases if you didn't pay to enter the park.

I also understand that DVC sells very well and free park admission is not necessary to sell units at DVC. My reason all goes back to one simple reason. We pay far more to visit WDW than the vast majority of families that visit WDW.

You said you doubt we could ask for a better deal than $100 off an annual pass. They gave the free passes before, why can't they now? Again, I think it should be a perk for purchasing a real estate interest with DVC.

We used our DVC discount and got our AP's used it this trip 6/28-7/5 and when we go at Christmas 12/20-12/24:banana:

occassionally DVC does offer free AP's when buying in. Back in Feb. 2008, the Doorway to Dreams location (in Chicago) was offering 2 free AP's with a minnimum of 110 AKV points.

I don't expect free tickets, but I do think they should provide a discount on park tickets (other than just the AP). Many DVC members only make one trip a year, and an AP doesn't make sense, even with the $100 discount. I was really surprised to find out they don't offer any other ticket discount.
As another poster pointed out - less money spent at the ticket window would likely result in more money spent inside the parks.

I understood you perfectly. I just disagree. It would be a poor business decision to take the lion's share of your return guests and remove the income from their admissions. There would be no point for DVC then, because it wouldn't be a good business venture for Disney. We are talking about a HUGE business after all. Besides, in the long run, our cost for purchasing DVC is a lot less than if we were making CRO ressies each year and as often as we travel with DVC. If I was still spending $5000 a trip to stay in a deluxe resort 2-3 times a year, Disney gets a LOT more from me than if they sell me a DVC membership and I have to buy passes each year.

They use to only offer a discount on Length of stay passes. That to me was a ripoff. I either bought non-expiring Park Hoppers or AP's with the old Magic Kingdom Club Discounts. I was glad when they started offering the AP Discount. They really should have other options available for those who can't make use of the AP discount. I hope they don't do away with the AP discount though because that is what I use.

How did you do that counter on your signature. That is so cool. I would love to do that. We have our trip this month and another one in Nov. Thanks

When they gave the free passes, it was to encourage people to buy into DVC the first few years. DVC is not owned by Walt Disney World.
Just to provide more information...

OKW and VB buyers in the early years of DVC received a valuable incentive: free Park Hopper passes for Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Studios, equal to half the maximum capacity of the villa for the number of nights in the villa, with the incentive ending at the end of 1999. The incentive was paid for as a marketing expense, just like the incentives that are sometimes available these days.

Disney Vacation Club is the brand for Disney's timeshares, and it's a shorthand term for the point-based "club" that allows owners (DVC members) to use their ownership interest to stay at resorts.

Disney Vacation Club is not a single business entity. The main business entities of DVC are:
  • Disney Vacation Development Corp., which develops and sells DVC resorts
  • Disney Vacation Club Management, Inc., which operates the DVC resorts primarily through the funds received through annual dues.
  • DVD Financing, Inc.
  • Buena Vista Trading Company, which facilitates trades

These business entities are owned by The Walt Disney World Company through subsidiaries. The DVC business entities can't give away theme park tickets, just as the theme park managers can't give away DVC villas.

Any theme park benefits that we get have to make business sense. They either need to be paid for (such as marketing incentives) or they have to be good business for the company (such as the $100 annual discount that presumably results in substantially more annual pass sales and more spending at the parks).

We have 5 children and never took them out of school. The way we worked the annual passes was go about 2 weeks earlier every other year. e.g. Aug 1 to 10 in 2005 and then July 15 to 25 the next year. That way we got 2 trips out of the AP's. My DH and I still do that now that the kids are adults and it's usually only the two of us. If you eat out, the discount on food with the Disney Dining Experience Card is great too.

What site do you use for discounted passes? We are still trying to figure out what is the best way to go with passes. Thanks.

at www.mousesavers.com sign up for the monthly newsletter. There will be links when you receive it on the 15th of each month to Undercovertourist with the deepest discounts I can find. Also these are comparable to AAA here in New England, but offer many more permutations than AAA.

Sometimes we have APs and sometimes we have 10 day non-expiring passhoppers with water parks and more. But right now we have 9 minor parks admissions, so our next ticket might just be a 10 day non-expiring park hopper.

HTH:goodvibes

for us the 10 day no expire w/water park ticket is the way to go. We will only get to use possibly at the most 10 days at wdw within a 12 month period so if you do the 10 day +water park no expire, you actually get more like 20 days of activities then.
