We're thinking of a trip to WDW the first week of Jan next year - maybe flying down on the 1st and staying a couple of days. Once the New Year's crowd departs, are the park crowds much lighter? How about DVC occupancy? I'm thinking maybe I won't need to hustle on the 11 month window to stay at BCV and maybe try for something other than our home at the 7 month mark?

Thanks!

With January 1 falling on a Monday next year the crowds will be light following that date. We went to WDW for three New Year's in a row and always found the crowds fall off after the first. You won't need to "hussle" as is day by day reservations but you might as well make the reservations at the 11 month wondow if you are sure of going.

We were there (last week) and can only comment on January 2nd (which was Monday). The Magic Kingdom was jammed. We got there early and went to AK around 11:30. Walking down Main St. towards the entrance was like swimming against the current. AK was not bad, but the MK was jammed that day.

I agree it was very crowded all this week. I expect the crowds to diminish this coming week. For example: last Monday (Jan 2), MK was open til midnight, and the extra magic hours for resort guests was midnight til 3 am. Tuesday was open til 11 pm, and Wednesday til 10 pm.

We went first week of January several years ago and it was jammed! Looked like people who came to Florida for the Orange Bowl decided to take a longer holiday and go to Disney World.

We have gone the first week of Jan. many times, and I have to agree with John that it seems to be staying crowded this year. Also, the Marathon has caused a few more travel problems this year than in the past. They seperated the half marathon and full marathon, so this year it has been awful traffic two days instead of one.
