I found the attached story about a vacation village under consideration in Europe very interesting:

http://biz.yahoo.com/rc/030519/leisure_eurodisney_1.html

I am curious if this will have any relationship to DVC (although I tend to doubt it). It just seems that the project they are discussing is right up our alley.

Hey, 7-month reservation at DVC Paris anyone? ;)

Actually, there's a Marriott Vacation Club opening at Disneyland Paris in a few weeks. It will trade through Interval International. When I last looked at the DVC World Passport Collection list, it wasn't there yet. However, I expect it to be added, just as the other Marriott clubs are all listed (except for those in Orlando).

Click here for Marriott's Village d'Ile-de-France at Disneyland Paris.

I wouldn't get too excited about the Yahoo news story posted by new_yawka. I don't see how that story suggests that there will be DVC resort (or a resort with a strong relationship with DVC) at Disneyland Paris. If the development includes timeshares, I suppose there's a chance that there could be additional Interval International availability some day.

I agree Horace, I do not believe that DVC will open in Paris. Nontheless, I am always intrigued when I see Disney getting into vacation develpment.

Hope does, however, spring eternal. :)

I would love to see additional Disney options at it's other theme parks around the World and figured that others would also be interested to see that Disney is considering vacation development outside of WDW.

This "vacation develpment" would be a partnership between Euro Disney SCA (parent of the Disneyland Paris Resort) and an outside company, Pierre & Vacances.

I'm not sure that "vacation develpment" means timeshares, although that could be a component. The plan involves four villages -- forest, sports, water and earth -- with a lot of green space.

I can't tell from the article if we should expect primarily a campground, or if there's regular lodging too. On one hand, the article talks about an extension of the Davy Crockett Ranch and "nature villages." On the other hand, the article talks about a 1.0 billion euro ($1.16 billion) price tag -- which seems rather high for camping spaces.

The first wave of hotels at at Disneyland Paris Resort was built by Euro Disney. The second wave (which includes the Marriott Vacation Club) is being built by outside lodging companies. The partnership with Pierre & Vacances could be the third wave.

The website for Pierre & Vacances shows that they offer rental apartment accommodations throughout France. I don't see any reference to any connection with timeshare. It appears that this could be an addition to their substantial rental business. Just speculating.

Thanks for the link....Very interesting info. They seem to do resort vacationing (rentals) unlike any company I have seen in the US....

....I will be curious what this Disney Paris property has in store.

Last January we were at DLP staying at the DL Hotel. After checking in there was a desk in the lobby with Marriott sales people there trying give us a hard sell. Put them off with no thanks we are proud DVC members. Got the deer in the headlights look. Also there were large banners in the train station for Marriott property. Sadly we did not have the time to check out their offering.

With 50 percent of Americans boycotting French products right now, I doubt DVC will get involved with anything in France at the present time.

Keep in mind that the Disneyland Paris Resort serves primarily Europeans. It really doesn't matter how some Americans feel about French imports in early 2003.

It's clear that neither Disney Vacation Development (which is 100% owned by The Walt Disney Company) nor Euro Disney SCA (which is 40% owned by The Walt Disney Company) has any interest in developing a timeshare resort at Disneyland Paris. Otherwise, they would not have brought in Marriott Vacation Club to develop the prime site adjacent to the golf course, located between the Davy Crockett Ranch and the entrances to the two theme parks.

It is, however, highly likely that DVC will put the Marriott onto the World Passport Collection list. If so, "DVC will get involved with [something] in France at the present time." And DVC already offers Disneyland Paris hotels as part of the Disney Collection. So, already, DVC is involved with something in France.

not sure where you get this 50% number. I am sure there are many people out there who don't bother to not use products from France even if they are upset with France's stand.

I know I am not happy with the French, but I don't have to time to see what products are made in France or by French companies. I have better things to do with my time.

Now back to the topic of this thread. I agree that DVC does already have "involvement" in France in the Disney Collection. DVC is a BUSINESS and what drives business? MONEY! if they thought their was enough interest in a DVC resort at Disneyland Paris they would do it.

MickScott8--It was on the news yesterday-boycotts are having a much smaller effect on Germany, China and others. |Some people take the time to do this, others do not, it is a big world out there. Like I said DVC will not touch Paris right now and I agree with you it is over money. I would never buy a French product right now but some may not care enough or are just too busy in their lives to check to see if the wine is from France.

I just don't see how any possible boycott of French goods (or a boycott of travel to France) by some US consumers right now is any factor in this issue.

DVD hasn't built a DVC resort at DLP, nor has Euro Disney SCA built any sort of Disneyland Paris Vacation Club. They didn't do so any time in the past 10 years, and I have no reason to believe they'll do so any time in the next ten years. Instead, Euro Disney SCA brought in Marriott.

Euro Disney SCA is a French company.
