Anyone have any thoughts on whether to buy direct from Disney Vacation Club or from a reseller?

Wanting to add points soon!

Thanks.

I think it's a lot of personal preferences.

I just got my welcome home from Disney at Beach Club Villas. When I was looking I looked through the resale lists first. There were a lot of contracts available with high unused points available. The Point savings seemed better, but I wanted the benefits of financing which can be difficult without going through Disney. When I decided to just go with Disney, they surprised me and gave me one of the last points at BCV with a December renewal month. Even though it's later in the year they bought back my 200 points for $10/pt, and I'll get 200 points again in December 2003. To me, it was almost as if finding a resale with all it's points intact and then some.

Now my contract worked out at $74/pt, I was able to finance on my terms, ( and payoff with my yearly bonus later), and no closing points.

Most of the resales are going for $70 - $72. I noticed additional closing costs are approx $500 and possible reimbursement of annual dues if the sellers had left points for you could easily have pushed the selling price up to $76 - $78 a point.

For me the process took about a week, I didn't have to face the fear Disney would take option of first refusal, and I knew who I was dealing with.

In the end, you'll be like any other DVC Member, so get a good estimate on what fits your pocket book, and shop around.

Buy from Disney if:
1. Want SSR
2. Want a specific number of points at your resort with your use year (harder to do with resale)
3. Want to finance and need Disney's financing
4. Willing to possibly be on a wait list for resorts other than SSR
5. Want to make reservation with the points when you make the deposit
6. Want to sign and date with the ears and palm trees
7. Want a lithograph with your purchase
8. Only want to deal with a Disney guide

Buy resale if:
1. Want to save money on purchase
2. Willing to buy a contract with different use year or slightly more points than you want
3. Comfortable analyzing the value of a contract with different combinations of current, banked and borrowed points
4. Comfortable with negotiating terms

Neither number 3 or 4 for resale are that difficult.

We did both. OKW resale using Pat at The Timeshare Store and BCV direct from Disney with our guide Byron. Both Pat and Byron are highly recommended. Neither process was particularly long or difficult.

Good luck.

I looked into buying resale on both of my sales but disney was just the perfect fit for me. Everyone who buys resale always says they got that years points and got seller to pay closing costs.I have not seen that many sales listed were the points were not already barrowed into the fallowing year or that years points are used up.Disney gives you your points and has the buy back option that I never went for.If I call now and want to buy more points I know i have them no questions no need to worry it,s yours.
