I've always felt that DVC should open at least one DVC member ONLY resort.
Any feedback?

Welcome to the boards! Unfortunately, I think this is one of the stupidest ideas I have ever come across. If it is a member's only resort, that would preclude any exchanges or any use by members of any outside options like the Disney Collection (otherwise their points they "exchanged" would go unused). Members having priority I can see, but a members only resort would neither work nor be a good idea. There are four DVC only resorts currently, which does work fine in the current system.

Before voting I wanted to elicit a clearer picture of your meaning for "Members Only"

1) Only DVC points reservations i.e. no cash ressies
2) Only reservations where at least 1 DVC member is listed as staying (cash or points)
3) Only DVC members period no guests or extended family reservations i.e. DVC members as all of the party
4) something else

I think he means we all have to dress like this:

Well, SSR and OKW do not share their facilities with Hotel guest, althought Disney books guests into these resorts. I personally think it is good that Disney uses these rooms. It ensures that Disney will take an active roll in keeping these resorts up to Disney Standards.

The closest you will see to a DVC Members Only resort is OKW and SSR style resorts that aren't attached to, nor shares services with, an adjoining WDW Hotel. Disney will always retain some ownership interest that can be used for cash reservations and maintenance. In theory, all exchanges and trades to Disney Collection ARE member reservations, they turn the room over to either II or Disney to pay for the trade.

All points and only points with at least 1 DVC member "registering" would put to many rstrictions on the usage for me so I voted NO (e.g. due to illness, or job situation no one on my contract can go this year so I/we lose my/our unbankable points, can't be rented out can't be transferred).

I like the flexibility that DVC has and a lot of that flexibility is lost in a members only rule set this might be able to be made workable but it isn't something I would value as I presently understand it.

Actually, I think DP said "stupidest" Don't take it bad.... the Wright brothers heard the same thing.

I voted no because I don't see any upside to it. One might think DVC members are better behaved or treat the facilities with greater respect, but I think it is probably the other way around. Renters are probably more cautious in both areas.

To the OP:

What "greater purpose" would that serve above and beyond what OKW and SSR accomplish now? I guess I'm just confused as to "why" you feel there's a need for one............:confused3

I would like to see one but don't think it is really feasable. Doesn't the cash ressies help to keep our yearly fees from skyrocketing?? I mean more than they already do lol. ;)

OK. I'm sorry. It's the most ludicrous, hair-brained, idiotic, and ignorant things I have heard proposed in an awfully long time. (Just kidding!!!!!!)

I do think the idea is incredibly stupid, but I don't think you are stupid for proposing it. I always encourage people to put forth even the most radical ideas because that is how they get discussed and adopted or disposed of. That's how things get better and how changes get made.

A DVC only resort? Hmm.

What would we be able to do at a DVC only resort that we can't do at the others?

What benefit would we get from that?

I agree disney rents out I believe 10% of their rooms. It is good for revenue and standards

In my opinion, I think it's great that Disney rents the DVC resorts. All people can't afford a membership, but can afford to rent a villa for even a week and enjoy the experience of staying in a villa, without the costs involved in membership.

In the early days of WDW, long before the DVC was ever conceived, resort prices were at a price point that didn't allow many families who visited Disney to experience the added magic of staying on property. My personal opinion is if you haven't stayed on property, you haven't really visited Disney. I was glad when Disney decided to open the Value Resorts at an affordable price point allowing more people to enjoy the Disney magic.

As for a "Member's Only Resort", As a member, I just don't see the need for or the feasibility of such a resort. What would we gain, except as previously mentioned, higher annual dues?? I'm sure such a resort wouldn't lower our costs in anyway, nor give us more or upgraded benefits, without a very large option package.

I know we all have our ideas as to what should and should not be done, and I respect all opinions stated here. The above is only my thoughs on the subject.

Hope you all have many more Happy Disney Days!!!
