DVC Obsession with Hide-a-beds?

We looked at DVC, but it appears, you have to pay some serious points to get something with two bed in it. We don't have a problem spending the night in a hotel room with two double or queen beds in it. We don't plan on spending enough time in the room to care. Are rooms like these available via DVC or are we stuck with standard resort rooms when we stay?

OKW Studios have two queen beds in them that's one of the many reasons we bought there.

Just a note that most don't realize that the hideabeds aren't the "bar in the middle of your back" variety. So, keep that in mind.

My tall teenage son and 2 grade school age kids slept in one at BWV. I even napped on it, and it was comfy.

I do believe that they have converted all of the hideabeds to these new comfy ones, in the last year or so. Can anyone confirm?

OKW studios/2nd bedroom have two Queen beds. I believe dedicated 2BRs at BCV have 2 queen beds.

Some of the OKW sofa sleepers (1 bedroom and larger units) have been converted to the "new style" if they were damaged. Most are still the original style, and they are recovering them for the rehab. Most of the furniture at OKW is not being replaced, only recovered/repainted. That said, it is well built furniture, and still perfectly usable. Replaceing well built furniture with new would be much more expensive.

As far as DVC being obsessed with hide-a-beds. I think the members are even more so. Several years ago at an OKW association meeting there was a member being very vocal that OKW studios should remove the 2nd queen bed and replace it with a hide-a-bed. It seems most members prefer the queen/hide-a-bed combo studios over the 2 real bed set up. I'm sure it depends upon who is on your traveling party. Personally, I prefer two beds.

I'm just speculating here, and I may be completely off base.

I think that many DVC members bought in because they wanted extra space to spread out. They don't see the resort as just a place to sleep, they want larger villas and the ability for the parents to have their own room, and the kids to have their own space.

My guess is that studios at DVC are used mostly by singles and couples, who appreciate having the extra space afforded by having a sofa instead of a second bed. The families with kids that bought DVC are getting one-bedroom or two-bedroom villas.

I know that if I travel solo, I get a studio. If I'm bringing even one other person along, it's a one or two bedroom villa. The nice thing about DVC is that you don't HAVE to pack a bunch of people into a single hotel room.

The other thing about sofabeds is it makes it seem more like a small "studio apartment" with a living area and a kitchenette, rather than a "hotel room."

To each their own...some people like the OKW studios with 2 queen beds, and some people like the queen bed plus sofabed arrangement. I prefer the latter, as it then gives some place to relax that's NOT a hard "kitchen" chair.

I agree on needing options. But this is one of the biggest problems we have with purchasing DVC and I thought maybe others would know more about what options there are. I'm glad to see key west has other options, perhaps we'll see more of those in the future.

We own at OKW and this is one of the reasons we dont stay there is because of the 2 beds we like the sofa style fold away bed as it gives us more room, also DDsays she gets a good sleep on it.

I much prefer the sofa bed option. I either travel by myself or with a friend and I really like having the extra space during the day. I've slept on the "new" sofa beds and they are really quite comfortable.

I doubt it, they've had 15 years to build another resort with two beds in the studio and haven't.

The thing about booking options is that it trims availability down considerably as the rooms book up. DVC operates pretty much full year round, and as you get closer availability gets spotty. More room types increase the chances you won't string your entire vacation in a single room sooner during the reservation period. It doesn't work well with the program.

You have to rember that DVC is "condo's", not "hotels" so the empahsis is giving you all the conveniences of home while you are there. You have refrigerators, microwaves, etc. Studios would be the same as a studio apartment that you might live in, so they give you a couch to watch tv and entertain.

All studios in OKW have 2 beds(and 2 bedrooms have 2 queens in 2nd bedroom). It has been that way since it WAS "DVC" when we joined in 1994. One reason we like our home resort, that and all the space and parking infront of your building!!!

Each of the DVC resorts (except for BWV) have dedicated two bedroom villas with two queen beds in the second bedroom, if that helps.

But all of the OKW two bedroom villas, dedicated or not, have two queen beds in the second bedroom.

The sofa sleeper is very comfortable. I like the idea of having a couch to relax on after a day at the parks or pool. If you want 2 beds OKW would be the place.

However at BCV only 25 have the two queen beds in the 2nd bedroom, the others have queen bed and sofa bed.

We're staying at a 2-bdrm Villa in a few months. I know that there's 2 queens in the "studio" room and a king in the master room but is there also a pull-out queen bed in the sofa in the livingroom?

Yes all living rooms have a sofa bed.

Bingo! We use 1 bedrooms for 2 people and 2 bedrooms for 3 or more. No need to "require" anyone to sleep on a pull out. It's one of the reasons I'm unhappy about the pullout chair in the OKW rehab. I hate that they took away our beautiful comfy chair and ottoman for a monstrosity that turns into a "bed" that I'll never use.:confused3
