What's the deal with purchasing a points transfer? I see a fair number of posts advertising them for sale, but I also see that transferring for consideration or money is against the DVC rules. Is this a risky transaction in the sense that DVC will refuse to recognize a paid-for transfer, or do they just turn a blind eye? Thanks!

I think this protects them from getting involved in any money dispute between the members.

Plus, technically, the points have no monetary value.

I don't really consider it any more risky than renting. I would prefer to have the points transferred rather than renting, that way I am in control of the reservation.

DVC will not get involved in disputes from a points transfer so you would be on your own if there is a problem.

But, I just can't imagine there are many cases where owners are defrauding other owners so I would think that the risk is low.

And, if you mention money during the call, MS will refuse to complete the transaction.

Do people use contracts for transfers as well?

i have done points transfers 3 times - once out to another member and twice in from other members.

None of those times have I (or the other members) felt it necessary to use a contract, however, the first time was with someone who we had previously rented points from on more than one occasion and the other two transactions were with 'friends'. I can't see that it would hurt to have a contract, although, as it has been previously pointed out, the points don't actually have a monetary value so not sure what good it would do in the long run :confused3

It is just easier and safer to acquire a points transfer albeit you
can only do this 1 time per year so make sure it is the maximum
you wish to transfer.
