DVC newbie needs advice on "use year" ?

OK, called the Timeshare Store and put my name down on the waiting list for Boardwalk.

I have a question about the "use year". I primarily plan to go the first few weeks of December. I'm confused about the "use year". What are the best use years to look for for my situation and why? What months should I avoid?

Use year is of little importance unless you are prone to cancelling reservations close to the time you travel. In 11 years of membership, we have never needed to do this, so I don't consider it an issue at all.

Without going into long explanations which you will find on those other threads, if you usually go in December, any use year from June through December is fine and avoids that issue involving the risk of cancellation and not being able to bank your points if you do cancel.

If you travel in December you should by a user year from DECEMBER To JULY. The reason being you must bank your points no later than 8 months before they expire. If you ever have to cancel a trip (and you know things happen with kids) from AUGUST to NOV 30th. You will not be abl to bank these points and use them another time. But keep in mind that your membership is for over 40 years. Your travel habits will chang many many times. Do not force yourself to marryy a particular UY because what is right today man not be right tomorrow.
