So I just got a sweepstakes offer through email to spend 3 nights in NYC and see The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, and The Lion King, plus backstage at Mary Poppins. ((Yeah, I entered it!))

I got the distinct feeling that the (host) on the podcast for the sweepstakes probably did some other hosting while he was doing the Broadway sweepstakes.

This goes with rumors of a NY DVC sales office, and that there will be a BIG announcement soon. I also heard rumors way back in the past about a BIG Apple announcement.

So anyway, just my female intuition, but

DVC NYC?

What do you think? Would you like a DVC in the heart of Times Square? Would you buy points in NYC? Would you trade into NYC?

Has anybody heard anything that would go along with this GUT feeling?

Unfortunately, this is a long dead horse. Anything beyond that is wishful thinking. But, as Gusteau said about being dead, "that is no match for wishful thinking!"

Look under "cancelled projects" in the Wikipedia entry for DVC:

Yesterland also had an interesting article about the "42nd Street Project":

Sigh. It would be great to have a DVC resort in NYC. We do the Disney on Broadway shows every 2 years and a NYC resort would be perfect for us as another add-on.

I am not impressed with all these teasers from DVC about a Lake Tahoe DVC resort - big deal. What's so "Disney" about Lake Tahoe? We bought in to DVC as we really love Disney (not Lake Tahoe). Disney on Broadway is a big part of what Disney is on this continent!

Thank you so much for posting.

I knew that DVC had cancelled the 42nd Street project in the 90s. But this is a new time, with a new CEO.

DVC had originally hoped to build resorts in a lot of places besides Lake Buena Vista Florida, but Hilton Head and Vero Beach sold much slower than Disney had hoped. The focus turned inwards. NYC, Colorado, and Newport California were all cancelled.

Disney has now announced another off-property DVC, i.e. Hawaii, and have hinted greatly at a Westward Expansion. As stated earlier, there have been hints that there would be a major announcement that would be bigger than we were expecting. (Of course this was before the economy went South.) There have actually been "big" hints from DVC that was speculated as BIG apple.

Perhaps this Phoenix Bird is just another Dead Horse. But, it was nice to dream that Disney would dust off these plans and give it another go!

Never go by wikipedia. Anyone can change anything...

Even though we're only 40 minutes from the Big Apple, I would LOVE DVC there. We go to NYC a lot...

I wondered if it was back in the works when they removed the Shelbourne from the Concierge Collection. We've stayed there several times and enjoyed the accomodations. Now we're forced to swap DVC ressies with a friend for Manhattan Club which is nicely appointed but not as spacious. And I dislike the Plaza and hotels in NYC can be hit or miss.

I think it would help me get Dh to NYC. OK, this is going to make me sound like a hick...I have only been to NYC once, and that was on my Senior Trip in High School. I really liked it! But, I can't get Hubby to go!

Sitting on Broadway, with 3 Disney shows, and probably others, going on the all day bus tour, plus shopping, restaurants, museums, etc. etc. I would so love it!!!

I bet a NYC DVC would be expensive! With that said, I would think the labor savings would make it a good option.

Something tells me it would be mostly studios, perhaps with some larger studios that would sleep five.

If it existed I think it would be a great option.

We try to get to NYC every few years to do Broadway but I'd go more often if I could go DVC!

I love the idea of a NY DVC. We live about 2 hours from the city and usually do a weekend trip every other year. I would definitly use some DVC points to stay there.

On a side note we were just there in July and saw The Lion King and it was FANTASTIC!!!!

Finally got to NYC last year-would add on for sure. Hope its tall.

Wow!

Jade1, that is beautiful.

You always make the most beautiful pictures!

Is that view too much to ask for? Again wow!

IMHO Disney is making a huge errror in expanding outside the parks.

Disney is a WORLD CLASS theme park operator. They are not world class in lodging or truthfully in timeshares. I think Marriott for example does a much better job.

So Disney thinks the "charge a premium because we put Disney on it" model will fly outside the parks. It didn't fly that well at VB or HHI and I don't see anything that has changed. Disney service is still not "industry leading" Disney does not deed the timeshares like others do. Disney tends to go "cheap" on the location figuring "if we build it they will come". And Disney wants more cash for this product then anyone else??
