A lot of us podcast listeners are DVC owners, so I wanted to share this here.

New option offers alternative to borrowing vacation points

Disney Vacation Club® has created a convenient new solution for Members who find themselves in need of additional vacation points to book a reservation.

This new option, designed as an alternative to borrowing from next year's allotment, allows Members the option of paying for a one-time assignment of as many as 24 vacation points from Disney Vacation Development, Inc., for $15 a vacation point ($13.33 plus $1.67 tax) to complete their reservation. (A receipt is available upon request.)

Members may use these vacation points to book Disney Vacation Club Resorts, Disney Collection Resorts, Disney Cruise Line® voyages, Adventures by Disney experiences and World Passport Collection resorts.

Note that this option is available once each use year, and the transferred vacation points are assigned only for the specific use year and therefore expire when used.

So, what do you think?

Sounds like an idea off the DVC rent/trade board.....Maybe.

I guess the more options we have the better.

I find it interesting that they are just arbitrarily selling points. It must mean they have a lot of inventory out there they can't fill and are looking for creative ways to fill it.

How much are points going for on the rent/trade board...I thought it was something like $10 to $12 per point.

I know the guy who is a board sponsor DVC Mike (is that right?) charges $13 per point as a broker.

It's David's Vacation Club Rentals, and he usually doesn't deal with small amounts.

This will allow DVC members to round out and perhaps get an extra day or two where they may have been short.

This was an idea that I believe DVC members have asked for for a while, and it may have finally come to fruition due to the large point reallocations that took place the last two years, leaving those who bought the "perfect points" for their stay short in a lot of cases each year and needing to borrow from the next year, etc.

I don't think DVC is going to need a large inventory of points to cover it. The 7 month restriction allows them to essentially "rent" available inventory points from any resort - a good use of excess points from new inventory, etc.
